If there is a more beautiful stretch of urban highway in America, I would love to see it. Coming in from Hollywood Ave., you got the lake on your left (and hundreds of docked sailboats, at times), historical apartment buildings and beautiful stretches of part (including Lincoln Park) to your right, and the Chicago skyline looming large directly ahead of you.

And if there is a song that captures the feeling of that stretch of road better than Steve Goodman's "Lake Shore Drive", I would love to hear that, too.

Yeah, I love my hometown. So what?

yeah, agreed.

I live a hop skip and a jump from it and can in fact see it outside my window. And when I have to drive it and depending on the scene on the lake season-wise, it's gorgeous. Hell, even muggy and grey it's gorgeous.

Hell even us Wisconsinites can appreciate it.

It is a beautiful drive near the city, but even more amazing as you go north through Winnetka, Evanston, etc. Some of the homes are just stunning.

We take it as a ride back some times after we make our quarterly Garrett's Popcorn run down on Randolph. ))

Oh yeah, when it turns into Sheridan Rd.! Stunning.

My dad is a Teamster and does transportation on the movies they shoot in Chicago. He was Trans. Captain on Ocean's 12 (you can see his name in the credits, I'm sure) and one day the guy who was driving Andy Garcia called up. Said that Andy loved looking at pretty homes and wanted to know where to go. My Dad directed them that direction.

Andy Garcia, a Hollywood movie star, came back shaking his head in disbelief. "I've never seen homes like that before... just beautiful." Dude lives in fucking BEVERLY HILLS, or wherever the hell he lives!!!

So yeah, that's pretty, too. But I don;t consider it "urban" or "highway". But damn, it's pretty.

EDIT: My dad's IMDb listing (not really complete)...

The Turnpike spur that shoots off to the Holland Tunnel blows LSD away and then stomps on the remaining pieces. It was even better before those motherfuckers knocked down the WTC. That sweeping turn to the left as the Statue of Liberty and lower Manhatten come into view is the best roadway scene in the world.
