Saw it in a blurb in Rolling Stone of all fucking places. Like a shot to the gut.
This guy is not only a legendary military figure/critic...in his book About Face he credits my grandfather as being the best commander he ever had, and for basically teaching him everything he knew.
I actually was listening to About Face on tape about a week before 9/11, and in the ensuing days had a few pretty good email exchanges with Hack. I always wanted to interview him about my grandpa, but never got it together.
Damn.
