I think I usually see about a movie a year, but this looks pretty cool

Main Site

Press release/lineup

I'll try to make these at a minimum:

Be Here to Love Me: A Film About Townes Van Zandt

New York Doll

Toon Time with the RZA

There's also some Flaming Lips related movie and presumably tons of interesting indie films. Any LA-heads going? Anything particular catch your eye?

np: Yankees v Tigers

I'd like to see that Arthur "Killer" Kane doc (New York Doll), although it'd be heartbreaking. From the trashed promise of the Dolls to an alcoholic dead-end to getting beaten almost to death in the Rodney King riots to finding Mormonism to the Dolls reunion 30 years later... and then that brief glimmer of happiness snuffed out by leukemia. Fuck me, I just depressed myself thinking about it.

That thing with The RZA looks too cool for school. Live accompaniment, and to cartoons, no less? Foggin' Aye!

Hey Damen or anyone else whose been,

How difficult is it to just show up and buy a ticket. I want to see tomorrow's showing of New York Doll but forgot to get advance tix and they're sold out now. I know there are "Rush Line" tickets available for people who just show up but I'm trying to figure out how early I'd need to show up, how much risk there is that I'd drive an hour each way and find its sold out, etc.

Anyone seen anything yet this year?

I wanna see this:

Quote:
2046
[TWENT]

China, 2004, 129 min
In Cantonese, Japanese, and Mandarin with English Subtitles

Directed By: Wong Kar Wai
Writer: Wong Kar Wai
Producer: Wong Kar Wai
Executive Producer: Chan Ye-cheng
Cinematographers: Christopher Doyle, Lai Yiu Fai, Kwan Pun Leung
Editor: William Chang Suk-Ping
Music: Peer Rabin, Shigeru Umebayashi
Cast: Tony Leung, Ziyi Zhang, Gong Li, Faye Wong, Maggie Cheung, Chang Chen

Full Film Note Film Resources

To call 2046 a sequel does not capture its own distinctive idiosyncrasies, but the latest from beloved filmmaker Wong Kar Wai does pick up with actor Tony Leung reprising his role from In the Mood for Love a few tough, lonely years further down the line. Leung's frustrated writer becomes involved with a series of women as he struggles to write a sci-fi novel based on his own memories. A stunning series of Asia's biggest female stars—Ziyi Zhang, Gong Li, Faye Wong, Carina Lau, Maggie Cheung—bring gauzy, sexy life to Wong's meditation on how our past writes our future.
