After one listen, FT sez:

1. Gimme Fiction is infinitely more immediately accessible than Kill the Moonlight -- it's not a "grower".
2. World, meet Joshua Zarbo -- he absolutely slays on bass throughout.
3. Every single person who listens to this album will be overcome by the compulsion to shake they azz.
4. Regardless of whether you're a Girls Can Tell person or a Kill the Moonlight person, you will love this album.
5. I feel like Dalen after hearing the latest NME flavor of the month.

I won't hear this album until I buy it - and by that time this discussion will be long over. Bastids.

it's ok.
listened to it twice and it didn't do much for me.

so i'm hoping that it IS a grower.

actually, i think it will be precisely a grower. the hooks aren't as obvious or distinct, but the vibe is loose and pleasant, which is a nice change from the sometimes claustrophobic sound of spoon in the past few years. clearly, an emphasis has been put on "accessible songcraft," but not at the expense of the lyrics, melodies, and (most of the) production.

however, after a few listens (and this after listening to solo britt versions of this material for the past few months), nothing has really grabbed me the way songs from GCT and KTM did. time will tell...

also, i'm suspicious about the mastering/mix stage of this leak...

Hmm...

Everything hit me IMMEDIATELY on this one, unlike KTM, which took close to a dozen listens to fully click for me. Also, while the leak of KTM DEFINITELY sounded like a partial master/mix, this sounds fully mastered/mixed to me. I'm starting to think I'm in the bizarro world or something.

ditto...I need to "latch" onto it more...KTM was a bit of a grower for me.
I just started liking "Back To The Life" a month ago or so...

Both this and BSP passed the very first litmus test:

they aren't bad.

that's good enough for me thus far.

It has a lot of David Bowie in the singing.

It feels 70's.

It is midtempo and less aggressive.

I enjoy it very much.

If track 6 doesn't IMMEDIATELY hit you (especially that clever 9/4 coda), man I don't know what to say

It just slays

Warning: Opinions Ahead!

I've only listened to two songs, tracks 2 and 4, but this new album is already better than the outrageously disappointing KTM. I have a feeling it won't be nearly as good as A Series of Sneaks, but it may come close to Girls Can Tell. They may have jumped the shark with their last album, but Spoon appear to have turned things around.

Also, like KPH, I'm not too sure if this is a final version. It certainly doesn't sound bad, but there are bits and pieces that don't quite sound right.

I'm done listening. I give it a 6.8. I imagine the finished product will be somewhere in the 7.3-7.5 range, as I'm fully convinced that this is NOT the final version.

Listened to it 2x post-work today. There's a lot I like, yet a lot I'm not as happy as I could be with...

It'll be a top-20 candidate but, if this is the final version, it won't be a top 5 like the past 2 were...
