They have just finished their list of the best single from the 1970’s. They did do an albums list but that was last month. Also I didn’t post this in the list forum because I figure you want this to disappear sooner rather than never. I think this list is great, so I posted it here:

While that is Donna Summer's best song, I would never in a million light years have that as the best single of the '70's.

"Papa Was A Rolling Stone" all the way down at #67? Not in this boy's house it ain't. #1 all the way.

And where's "Freddie's Dead?" "Life On Mars?" "Solsbury Hill?"

Still, props for the thought that obviously went into this.

Oh, and "Love Hangover" is a slightly less-wretched song from one of the most overrated performers ever. Shrill, whiny, tin-voiced cow who hooked up with great songwriters.

Good grief, here I go (I deal with these songs for a living)...

"S.O.S?" I think not. "The Winner Takes It All" kicks that all to shit.

Your funny Phil and most of us don’t deal with these songs on a daily basis. I find it kind of refreshing because it isn’t just a bunch of indie songs. Instead people probably picked songs that were on the radio and that they remember hearing and loving back in the day. I haven’t heard so many of these songs for years and years but do love a lot of them as well.

I forgot, I have no problem with you critiquing the list, because that is what list are for anyways.

it's an okay list. I Feel Love is a pretty crappy # 1 in my opinion, but Donna Summer never really did it for me. Lots of songs of similar elk that I'd rather but whatever.

They get a huge dart for "Boredom" rather than "Spiral Scratch". And how "The Payback" only ended up at 99 is beyond me.

Surprise...

Two Wire songs? Great to see but do you think either song got any radio play anywhere?

No Stones? Miss You, Wild Horses, Angie, Heartbreaker, Brown Sugar, Tumbling Dice...none able to make the grade? Curious!

No Jam?

Why is Industrial Light & Magic picking the best singles of the '70s?

BeeOK Wrote:
83. Todd Rundgren - I Saw The Light

Over "Hello It's Me"? No.

I've never understood the following for this song. It's a nice little new wave pop song. If Paul Westerberg jumped off the Brooklyn Bridge, would you jump off the Brooklyn Bridge?

Huh!?!?!? And this coming from someone who listened to Eat to the Beat three times this week.

Tentzone - Nice to see Fort Stinking Desert just above my avatar-of-the-week.

I think it's a pretty good list.

'I Feel Love' is probably the single most influencial 45 of the last thirty five years so while it's not even my favourite Donna Summer track I don't have to many complaints about it being top.

"Outdoor Miner" happens to be Wire's one and only top thirty hit and I doubt it made the top thirty in the U.K. without ever being on the radio there but since I don’t live there you could be right.

You & me, man...brothers from different mothers.

I thought there'd be some Meco on there for sure.
