CINCINNATI, Ohio (Reuters) - A high school honors student shot dead his grandparents, mother and two friends and then killed himself in an Ohio town, authorities said on Monday.

Police in Logan County offered no motive for 18-year-old Scott Moody's Sunday morning shooting rampage inside two neighboring farmhouses in west-central Ohio.

Moody and one of the victims, a classmate, were to have graduated from Riverside High School in DeGraff, Ohio, at a commencement Sunday afternoon.

Moody's 15-year-old sister was hurt but called for help on her cell phone, authorities said.

Classmates described Moody as a popular honors student and a member of the Future Farmers of America.

I think he just didn't wanna be a farmer.

He was always a such a moody kid....ok, that out of the way...

high school kids had been shooting each other for decades, but it wasn't a big deal until it hit the suburbs.

I suspect that if you looked at shootings by high school students as a percentage of overall shootings, the result would be remarkably low.

I would postulate further that the percentage is the lowest of all felonies (i.e. high school students engage in shootings less frequently than car theft, rape, etc.).

The fact this these incidents achieve the level of sensation that they do is testament to the rarity of the event. Seems like things ain't as bad as you'd like to believe down here.

There's nearly 300 million people in this country. Shootings are awful and somewhat indicative of a screwed up nation, but percentage-wise we're not much worse off than many other nations. Kids get guns a bit easier, though. Maybe not easier than in a war-torn nation, but easier than in maybe Sweden or Japan.
