The recent posts about software made me think, what software is out there that I am unaware of?

So why not post a link to some of your most used/coveted music-related software out there.

For me, I use iTunes, but Im sure there is something better out there for this sort of thing...

As I mentioned in another post Audacity is something I was just made aware of, and it seems to be pretty powerful.

I recently started using DeepBurner to burn CDs... there is a free version, and again it seems powerful

I'm not a fan of the iTunes.

I will back up the Audacity claim...powerful piece of software that is FREE. Plus plenty of plug-ins available make it that much better.

Adobe Audition (ex-Cool Edit Pro) is great. So easy to use. I use it all the time for editing and capturing. I use it to track some instruments and vocals on my laptop, too.

Recently I started using Cubase SX for recording, just because it has a click track. This program is insanely difficult to get your head around though. It's slow going.

I use Windows Media Player with the Intervideo Tools Plugin to rip cds to MP3. Works great.

Nope sorry, I haven't used it for a couple years. We used to use it at the last agency I was at to back up all of our graphics files. You may be able to find it at www.tucows.com in the mac section. Sorry couldn't be more help...

i still use winamp. i had too many struggles with foobar -- if i could figure those out, i'd switch.

for ripping mp3s, cdEx, free online. Exact audio copy is too laborious.

for burning cds, easy cd creator.

For recording streaming audio, I use RM Recorder and WM Recorder. WM VCR allows me to set timers on my computer to record internet radio shows (or terrestrial stations with streaming) when I'm not home.

For organizing and tagging my library, I use MediaMonkey

For adjusting volume properties, I use MP3Gain

For the ipod, I use (sigh) iTunes...if anyone can give me a better way to work with the ipod, I'm all for it.

Idiopathic, you could give EphPod a try - it's at least another way to work with the iPod, and it's arguably better.

I'm a fan of Foobar2000, but ever since I stopped using Windows I've used Rhythmbox, which is pretty good, but not good enough.

I agree with you chase - it's pretty simple and customizable enough. Sometimes the problems you get at the intersection of ipod, itunes and windows xp can make it seem worse than it is.

hey, do we have a linux user in the house? id use it too if not for the fact that airport xtreme doesnt have drivers on linux and last time i tried it i couldnt get java working (which is a must, and can be a pain on linux on powerpcs). other than that, ive determined that linux is now where its at.

I know nothing about Airport Xtreme, but Java isn't that much of a problem. Ubuntu is the latest distro I've been using, and it's been superb. They've got a PowerPC version with live CD in case you're interested. (Just in case you don't know), a live CD lets you run the OS off the CD without having to install it on your hard drive, making it a risk-free way of trying it out.

yeah, ive tried ubuntu and loved it. the problem with java is that there is no official distribution from sun for linuxppc, so the only option is to download a ported version from ibm, which i was unable to get working. and i read about someone reverse engineering a driver for airport xtreme recently, since broadcom, the chipmaker, wont release the drivers for linux, but it will be quite a while until thats released.

No Im with you on this.. Im still trying to figure out why I should use foobar - other than the low memory imprint (not an issue) or the gain feature (eh, take it or leave it)
