The food item itself doesn't sound gross, but the name . . . chicken fries . . . is a real turn off:

Quote:
Hungry to lure in customers at all hours, Burger King is tentatively planning the launch this summer of a spicy, 4-inch-long, fried white-meat chicken snack that looks like a cross between a chicken strip and french fry. "For me, they're like M&Ms," says Greg Brenneman, CEO of Burger King.

In more tempting news . . .

Does anyone else have Wendy's in their area with Fix-n-mix Frosties? It's basically a DQ Blizzard now with your choice of three toppings - M&Ms, Butterfinger, and Oreo (fingers to be available at a later time.) I'm not sure it's necessary to add anything to Frosties . . . they're good as-is. I haven't worked up the desire to try these add-ins - why spoil the goodness that is a plain, unadulterated Frosty?

Jeez, it's definitely lunch time. I'm posting about food.

No Frosty add-ins, but we do have Fried Chicken at our Wendy's. Not just the strips, I mean full on wings, legs, thighs and breasts fried chicken.

My wife said that in Irvine in the mid-90s, the McDonald's there had pizza, or McPizza, I guess. I can't even imagine how gross that must have been. I'm thinking Sbarro's- or Eatza Pizza-quality gross.

Reubens are incredible, but that made me uncomfortable.

All right, in the interest of science, I did a little investigating. I went to Wendy's for some lunch, and seriously contemplated getting a Fix 'n Mix Frosty until I saw that they come in these tiny little clear cups. They are seriously small for the $1.29 price - I'd guess the small Frosty has more substance to it. Add-ins or no, your best dollar-to-nondairy food product bet is a regular ol' Frosty, I'm sorry to say. I opted instead for nuggets and fries. Wendy's nuggets are so disturbingly weird and spongy inside, but so delicious that it just doesn't matter. Maybe someday soon, when I'm feeling particularly spunky, I'll fork over the cash for a Fix 'n Mix Frosty . . .

Spoon! I'm no heathen. And, besides, will a Frosty even get through a straw? That's some thick stuff there.

What is the deal with people eating Frosties with fries? I mean actually dipping the fries into the Frosty. That seems just gross. Hot, salty fried-potato product here, cold chocolatey non-dairy dessert there . . . what makes you want to combine these two things? If you offered someone some mashed potatoes with chocolate sauce instead of butter, they'd tell you how disgusting it was. Fries in a Frosty? You can't keep 'em away from that combo. I think Wendy's missed a great opportunity here. They should have just gone and made that a combo themselves. "Burger King's got chicken-fries? Ha - we've got Frysty's!"

McFlurries are pretty weak.

and they cost Aus. $2.80 now! for reference, a can of coke costs around $1.50. But I know this guy that works at McDonald's and can get me two shots of Oreo's in a McFlurry for the price of one when the manager's not looking. I got lots of sweet hookups around town. Chicks dig it.

P.S. can you please outline the key differences between this Wendy's fix'n'mix and a McFlurry?

We don't have the Frosty thing here yet, but I'm guessing the difference is in choice of toppings and the Frosty's chocolate vs. McFlurry vanilla.

i'd prefer a mcflurry. because it's vanilla.
frosty's are okay once in a while.
but i'm not much of a chocolate fan.

and actually, just give me some plain icecream.
i don't usually like crunchy stuff in my icecream either.
except for nuts. i like nuts.

our McFlurries can be vanilla, chocolate, or TWIST (chocolate and vanilla all twisty and shit), thus rendering the fix'n'mix inferior.

I am proud to report that today I received a FREE Fix 'n Mix Frosty with M&Ms as the "mix" that I suppose is somehow "fixed." I am, however, sad to report that the "mix" is an exaggeration, as the candy is just a topping, maybe a spoonful, and isn't worthy enough of an amount to expend the energy mixing in. Two bits and the "mix" was gone. Save your money, just get a plain ol' deliciously simple Frosty instead.

This is what I ordered today on my endeavor to Burger King. I give them a 4/5.

I do not like the taste of the chicken fries. There seems to be some strange spice added. Also, I am very disappointed in the Fix 'N Mix Frosty's because I was expecting something closer to a Blizzard and something not so small.

The Chicken Tenders and Tender Crisp are still choice, though.
