I have it.

I'm little underwhelmed by it so far. It's not that I think that's its a bad album, there are some good songs on it such as Talk, White Shadows, and Square One but at this point I expect more of a progression from Coldplay. There's no doubt in my mind that they are a talented bunch of musicians and Martin has such a classic, beautiful voice. It's just that a lot of these songs are simply a rehashing of melodies that they've done before. I guess my biggest beef is that it breaks no creative ground. In particular, Speed Of Sound sounds almost exactly like Clocks to the point that it annoys me a lot.

Coldplay has the ability to be so much better than this, I just know it. They need to experiment more and stop repeating themselves and playing things safe.

The album sounds exactly like Coldplay. Which means I like it, but if you don't like Coldplay, well, there ya go.

They've now reached the backlash plateau of "Fuck U2 & Coldplay" (used to be "Fuck U2 & Oasis"), but the actual songs are still strong.

"Square One" and "Til Kingdom Come" are great. "Talk" will probably be a big hit.

is "Talk" meant to be a re-working of Kraftwerk's Computer Love, or is it just some freak coincidence?

from the songs ive heard, the U2 rip-offery is pretty damn obvious, especially with the bass and guitar.

but i can't help but like it.

Yes, it borrows the melody from Kraftwerk.

I like the guitar playing on the album. The album as a whole isn't bowling me over though.

i dig the guitarist's work as well...he always manages to find a pretty interesting part to play, although sometimes it is just so blatantly right from The Edge's book...specifically "Talk."

And "Speed of Sound" sounds exactly like Clocks, just sing the Clock vocal line over it.

What I mean to say is that, this is a pretty good album, but too much rehashing for me to seriously like it.

First listen was promising. Might grow from like to love, but there's nothing as immediate as "Trouble" on it.

agree here, and probably why i enjoy his playing so much [the edge is my favorite guitar player ever]. i have no problem with coldplay drawing influence from U2.

well i'm glad that you can enjoy it...stuff that is too overtly derivative just irks the shit out of me.

The 4/5ths of these that said "good-ish, but just not exciting" are dead-on. It's very listenable, but nothing is sticking in my head yet, after 4 or 5 listens. I will grow to like it more, but they could've at least taken 1 chance somewhere.

The first time I heard Speed Of Sound on the radio, I wondered if they could possibly get sued for ripping themselves off, it's that close. I mean, you've got time, talent, and a HUGE budget... don't release a first single that sounds 90% like your last big single. Sneak it in at like Track 9 or something, don't come out swinging with it.

Man, I wish Coldplay hadn't been so over-played. I really don't think I'll be buying this one. If everyone had been talking about how they'd gone in a different direction or this was album of the year or something I probably would have considered it but from the sounds of it, I think I'll save my money.
