Revelation: I can like whatever the hell I want to. It doesn't have to be the album everyone on this board or anywhere else says is the next big thing. I don't have to know, or give a shit for that matter, who every group or artist that someone mentions is or their career accomplishments. If I really like listening to what someone else may consider utter crap, so be it.

Not sure if it's a new level of maturity I am finally reaching after 28 years of life, or what exactly, but my eyes have been opened. I've been trying too damn hard to fit in...to keep up. My iPod has been crammed full of bands that I just don't get or have no interest in really all due to the notion that "If I listen to these guys, I might be cool." No more, not for me.

I will continue to love discovering new music at the suggestion of others or through self-discovery. I will continue to dig through record store bins looking for the next "gem". The difference now is I will not purchase according to what others say, but what I say. Forget reviews...fuck Pitchfork, Stylus, etc. I will not make purchases based on what seems to be "staples" of any indie music fans collection. If I can't get into Animal Collective, so be it. If I am just really getting into Pavement, once again, it's because it's my time to do so. Joy Division, same thing. Why the hell does this matter to anyone else, fuck if I know. I'm going to go play some Huey Lewis and the News now.

Having just checked the track list for Fore, that takes me back to '86. I forgot all about Doing it All for My Baby and Jacob's Ladder. That makes me very nostalgic for my grade 7 crush.

I think you are in the right place, here at Obner.
We are all kinda wannabe hipsters, who are really just music lovers at heart.
My own particular affinity for the band Hanson is well-documented, as are the affections of numerous other boarders here for bands that could get them scowled at (or banned from) other message boards.

Huey Lewis & the News had some good tunes.
Plus, they backed Elvis Costello before the Attractions even came into the picture (they're his backing band on My Aim Is True).

And I love Iron Maiden, too!

I love this.

Go Juice Go!

Yeah, I'm with you. I'm too old now to keep trying to be cool. I could care less anymore.

Oh yeah, and "Brandy (You're A Fine Girl)" by Looking Glass is one of my favorite songs EVER.

I think I'm a "nevergonnabea hipster."

I don't see what's so wrong with them. They made some really catchy, well-crafted pop songs that were a lot better than most of what adults consider "okay" to listen to, for whatever reason. Outside of "Mmmbop," which was just played way too damn much, had most of the pop-lovers on this board heard any of their other songs, they likely would have enjoyed their music without guilt. At least that's what I've gotten from what I've heard of their other stuff.

No one should ever feel guilty for loving Maiden! I've got my little Eddie Minimate on my desk at work, in fact. And I totally want one of these.

If I could get back the many hours I spent drinking beer and shooting pool at a little biker bar in town with that song playing......

I wouldn't want to. Great song.

Mama Told Me Not to Come was played a lot too.

Oh yeah...and when you're really drunk at like 5 AM, Nazareth's Hair of the Dog is a fantastic song to listen to at the 24 hour bar when you're talking to a stripper who just got off work.
