I was expecting something so much better. My first impression is that a few songs are okay but for the most part Mr. Grohl and his foo has

This is really disappointing, especially since he's coming off that great Probot album.

dammit; i hope you are exagerating--i had pretty high hopes for this record.

Actually, isnt this a double/disc/light/heavy mistake?

I wish I was exaggerating. I'll give it a few more spins for sure though.

Well, the first disc is all rock and the second is all acoustic ballads. I don't think that doing this qualifies as a mistake but this release could have easily been paired down to an album or even an EP of qual. The rest is shite IMO.

i was under impressed at first....but the first disc is slowly growing on me (it is an 'i-pod at the gym regular)

i hated it at first, probably because dave grohl said it was so fuking good, and because i still see the foos as being a singles band with their albums being full of alot of filler....

that being said, the first disc is pretty consistant....imo

Actually, its the first disc that disappoints me the most. Except for Best Of You I find it way too streamlined and formulaic for my taste. I just don't hear the energy and the urgency that was on the earlier albums.

but is it the whole as disappointing as "best of you"? it's on sale at best buy this week for $9.99

from all i've heard, the answer is "no". their last album was a disappointment too, so maybe i answered my own question. :)

i agree that i haven't heard the energy that was on the first couple albums on their most recent stuff. they're turning into neo-classic rock headliners for pearl jam quite quick.

do you actually listen to Pearl Jam or are you just using them as a (misinformed) example?

Just curious..........

The only song I really liked from the last Foo disc was "Have It All." So, I doubt I'll be picking this one up unless I accidently hear something I like from it at a music store or something.

Sadly, I have to agree with this.

Seems like you guys don't care for it, but I find the entire thing good. Not great, but it really is closer to two seperate albums. Sometimes I'm in the mood for the acoustic disc (which has some songs which take cues from the Beatles and other classic rock legends) and other times for the rock disc. I really found myself enjoying most of the tracks, such as D.O.A., No way back, and The last song. You really gotta be in the mood for Foo Fighters to listen to their music.

Probably one of their better albums to date, but Nothing Left to Lose is always going to have a special place for me.

Grohl should of just released the acoustic tunes under his own name because more than a few of them are quite good. As for the rock tunes they sound empty and generic like most of the nu-metal that's being put out these days. They are so radio ready its not even funny, he should've just scrapped them and gone back into the studio, as they can't compare to the earlier work.

There are elements of that new single that I like a lot, but overall it's not something I want to seek more of.

At least the last FF album seemed to have that inspired-by-working-with-QotSA vibe guiding it. Now it kind of seems like they are satisfied by being stadium rock that's "better than Nickelback". Not enough for me, I guess.

I've listened to it once today and I liked it. I'll probably warm up to it a bit more after a couple of listens. I thought the acoustic tunes initially seemed to be a bit stronger than the harder side, but that may change after a few listens. Overall, it's pretty solid.

I got through the first disc. It all sounds like filler to me, so you're right about them being consistent.

yeah, i have all of pearl jam's albums thru binary, i think. somewhere after "no code" they started slipping into the personnae of a "classic rock" band. just not as interesting to me anymore.

i haven't heard the whole of "in your honor", but have all foo's stuff thru their last, and they seem to be sliding the same way. lazily putting out rock, some good, most ok.

i'd like for grohl to do another foo album himself like the debut. that & "colour" trump anything since. here's hopin' to a "breakup" of the band so the band can be 1 again. :)

Just listened to the "rock" portion of the album and ... not bad. "In Your Honor", "The Last Song" and "End Over End" are the standouts. How do I miss the buzzsaw guitars and shitload of reverb from the first album. It is somewhat radio friendly and a bit too commercial now. Shame. FF albums tends to be growers so i'll give it time and more spins.
