when i went to see the old 97's the other night (review and shitty pics here) bobby bare jr. opened and performed an incredible nashvillified version of "what difference does it make". i couldn't find an mp3 of it anywhere so i actually signed up for the free emusic trial just so i could download it. it doesn't quite capture the feeling of the live version, but it's still great.

check it

EDIT - the link may or may not be working at the moment as ysi is having some sort of problem with me. but i'll find a way to post it.

It's on "Young Criminals Starvation League" and yes it is indeed awesome.

That whole album is tops.

An ish of Paste mag has a live toon by him on one of the DVDs. It is fricking awesome. The drummer just pounds his kit as if it was his last gig before his arms get chopped off in the morning. I wonder if it's the same toon you're talking about... it's pretty intense.

Bare, Jr.'s got a style all of his own, that's for sure. He released a CD under Bare Jr. called Boo-Tay, wayyy back in 1998. I saw it for .50 cents & picked it up, not knowing who it was.

I picked up that cd for exactly the same price about 4 months ago, though I had already heard it once before.

i remember his minor radio hit "she blew me off" from back in the day. i wasn't sure if it would be the same bare jr. that i was going to see, but then again, how many bare jr's could there possibly be?

Don't forget Bobby Bare, Sr.

"Greasy Grit Gravy", written by Shel Silverstein and also featuring Shel hisself and Willie 'n' Waylon is one of my all-time childhood favorites, up there with "Shotgun Willie".

. . .and what about Bobby Bare, Sr.'s duet with Bobby Bare, Jr. - "Daddy What If?". That was one of my favorites as a youngster.

Your transfer cannot be completed. Most likely the file has exceeded its allotted bandwidth or has been removed by the original sender or a recipient.

Dammit.
