I think of lotsa random shit while driving to and from work, usually because I'm stuck in traffic. One of last night's thoughts was -- the first alcoholic beverage you actually got drunk on. Did you get sick? Was it just a slight buzz? Experience your first hangover the next day? Do you even remember?

Mine -- Southern Comfort and orange juice. I was 17 and in my first year of college. My best friend bought the bottle with her fake ID and we chugged it in the parking lot before going to a party. Interestingly enough, no hangover, which only enticed us to keep buying Southern Comfort through the remaining college years. Of course, the hangover experience was another event altogether.

When I was 6, we moved to Germany, and my dad ordered me a beer on the plane. Seriously. He got one for him and one for me. I remember drinking Ouzo after dinner when I was 7 or 8, and having a strawberry daquiri and random beers when I was 9 or 10 (all with my parents)

the first time I got drunk I was in Anne Arundel Co., Maryland, I can remember exactly where my mom's friends live, but apparently they thought it would be ok for a 14 year old to go out with some Juco students (including my mom's friend's daughter) We ended up getting wasted, drinking MGD. I think I had 7 or 8 before I realized that I was, indeed, DRUNK. We ended up crashing in the girl's car outside someone's house for fear of waking up their parents, and getting up at like 7 am and sneaking in the house and going to sleep for real.

The next day, my mom's friend took us SAILING. I got "Sea Sick" many times.

It was pretty much downhill from there.

tequila. my family was in mexico for some sort of builder's convention when i was about 8. Upon entering the site for this one party, these 2 girls put a small ceramic bowl around your neck and filled it. It was refilled every time you went back through this little arch. My brothers, being the fucking sadists that they were, wanted to see how long it would take to get me to throw up. It turns out much longer than they expected.

years later, at around 13 my friends and i lifted a bottle of really bad tequila from a parent's supply and proceeded to head straight for the woods, where 6 of us split the bottle. Of course, yours truly ended up with the last part of the bottle as well as the worm that accompanied it. It was nasty, but i was a kid getting dared, so i downed it, shuddered, and promptly passed out. I have rarely touhed tequila since that second time.

Warm keg beer in the woods...Probably 15-16...

I remember coming home, and laying on the couch tryiug to drink OJ...Then trying to convince my mom I had food poisoning...Guess I fooled her and gave her reason for concern.. Cause she kept me home for the next month in fear of more food poisoning.

I was 14. One year exactly after Kurt Cobain's death, my friend Paul and I were supposed to smoke herb for the first time. He backed out, and I ended up drinking a pile (probably a couple dozen ounces) of brandy in my closet. I puked for six hours.

my first drink was Khaluah when i was 15 or 16.
i thought i was wasted, but it turns out i was just really happy to be hanging out with cool kids.

a few months later i went to a college keg party with my brother and learned what being drunk really was.

Ice Tea -- not sure if it was "Manhattan", "Long Island", or otherwise, but it went down so smoov -- tasted just like Iced Tea, no stupid soda mixer to water it down, just a melding of 7 or so different liqueurs.

No hangover, and I remember it distinctly, because I made an ass out of myself, telling the bartender I had fallen in love with her. I never actually "peaked" in terms of drunkenness, it was more of a plateau.

Didn't like beer until years later. My first beer drunk was Mickey's Big Mouth Malt Liquor (I know, technically, not a beer -- screw me). I had just moved into my apartment, and my flatmate wasn't there yet, and these two guys I didn't know came by and asked if they could wait until he got there, and they had brought a case of it...which was pretty much gone by the time my flatmate got home.

We were listening to Pink Floyd.

I am not exactly sure when I first got drunk - it would have been my first semester at college in Campbell Dorm...probably drinking some shitty beer or maybe a Gallo wine jug.

13 with my older brother(the black sheep)

6 Vodka shots

1 everclear shot

passed out in my own vomit 30 minutes later.

Had to go to church with my parents the next day.

I thought I was going to die in the pew.

Worst part is, after church, my mother said, "Joe, were you drinking last night". And, in a very shocked and oscar winning performance way I said, "Mom, I can't believe you would even ask me a question like that. Of course I wasn't drinking. What kind of kid do you think I am?"

I then proceeded to go home and vomit some more before a nice sunday ham.

That would be:
http://www.unibroue.com/products/fin.cfm
"Fin de Monde" beer 9%
I guess I was 18.

It wasn't my first taste of alcohol by any means, but it was the first time
I got drunk. Didn't throw up, but I managed get involved in a colletive make-out session with most of my friends. Hum.

The one time I was sick from alcohol went something like this:
Age: 23
Date: Halloween
Attire: Karate outfit
Substance: entire mickey of Appleton Estate Rum
Context: Loft party in Montreal
In attendance: Rufus Wainwright and various other indie hipsters
Outcome: throwing up in the kitchen sink and needing to be escorted home and nursed back to health by then b-f .

Yup.

southern comfort -- 15 years old, with my friend eric, and his older hott cousin from west virginia.

came home and went and sat on the edge of my mothers bed laughing my ass of telling her i was drunk. funny thing is, i don't remember her getting mad one bit.

never got sick or a hangover the next day, but later on in college, i got really sick from so-co, and haven't been able to even smell it since.

damn, i don't remember the first time i got drunk... all the drunken times start to mesh together after awhile. i remember when i was 13 or 14, my uncle and i were taking shots of crown royale on new year's eve... and i used to drink his vodka all the time, leave a little bit in there and refill with water. i rarely used to get hungover when i was younger, but now it happens often.

I had to go to work the next afternoon, so I got the bartender to hook me up with a few more before starting to throw pies.

I recall that I could taste rose's lime for several days, and I really liked it. Same as Puma: back then, hangovers were minor if present, now...not so. Now hangovers can feel like recovery from some operation. Youth is wasted on the young...

40 oz. st. ides.
junior year in high school.
(it soon became our weekend staple. that. mad dog and OE)

no hangover.
i wasn't trashed. but.... definitely buzzed pretty good. the most exciting part was going home and not getting caught.

i don't think i officially got my first hangover until my freshman year in college. (when i learned the valuable lesson that mixing lots of different alcohols is not a good thing.)

i used to pride myself on never getting hangovers. i still don't .... usually. but once in a while...yikes!

Jack Daniels, some night when my parents were out of town when I was . . . 16? Something like that. Tasted horrible, so I mixed it with Diet Coke. Still tasted horrible, just more like Diet Coke than a cleanser. Did that a few times that night, felt really gross, but didn't get sick. Decided drinking was pretty stupid. A couple years later a friend coaxed me into drinking some tiny airline-sized bottles of scotch (okay, she was hot) and again decided later that drinking was just stupid. Haven't had a drop since - that was like 13 or 14 years ago. I just don't enjoy drinking things that taste like I should use them to strip paint. I just stick to Diet Coke. I'm with George Costanza:

Quote:
GEORGE: I don't even drink wine. I drink Pepsi.

ELAINE: You can't bring Pepsi.

GEORGE: Why not?

ELAINE: Because we're adults?

GEORGE: You telling me that wine is better than Pepsi? Huh, no way wine is better than Pepsi.

Drank a little bit when I was 11-13 with the older kids..Never drank enough to get drunk though..1st time I got drunk was at the typical keg party in the woods...My buddy kept telling me to finish his beers, which eventually started to be full beers just so he could see me drunk...The beer was most likely The Beast or whatever cheap shit they could get a hold of....

I can't remember the first time I had alcohol. The first time I got drunk was my senior year in high school. It was on beer. No hangover. I did make a huge ass out of myself. Not much has changed.

Where: We got snowed in at my buddy's house senior year of hs and started playing poker with his dad, drinking the beer we had there. It got to be 12 midnight and we were out of beer, so we hopped in his Jeep, put it in 4wd and made a beer run with his dad absolutely drunk - I was driving. We got back, continued playing poker and got hammered. No hangover.

edit: It was Bud Light.

2nd edit: I've had the taste of beer as long as I can remember. My dad would always offer me a sip or two of his at dinner of when he got home frmo work and had a beer.

First time I ever drank was my freshman year in high school at a buddy's house when his parents were gone. Beer. The Beast LIGHT. Fucking hated it. Didn't really get drunk.

1st Drunk. 15. Downstairs in my house after the parent went to bed on some hooch me and a buddy siphoned off from his folks. Taking shots of rum and chasing it with Sprite. Open puking 45 minutes later.

My love affair with booze continues to this day..........

First time drinking? Too young to remember, but it wasn't anything major.

First time drunk? Probably when I was 17-18. I was working at the local Sheraton hotel in their "health club" (Bloor, Senator-- y'all should know the one I'm talking about, right across from the lake). A friend and I were working the club together that night, and another co-worker was working some big party that was going on outside. Anyhow, the party worker kept coming back into our office with cans of cold, unopened beer, and we dumped them in a garbage bag. By the end of the night, we had at least two cases of beer in the bag. After work that night, around 11, we went over to one of the guys' house, sat on his front lawn and proceeded to drink ourselves into an oblivion. I think we even took the requisitie drunken golf cart ride that night too.

edit: the one thing I cannot drink to this day is Amaretto. Bad, BAD things happen when I drink this stuff. Like elephantstone, I can't even smell the stuff without feeling sick.
