Thinking of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, There's a lot of bands out there, who have singers tha can totally make or break them for me, and it feels like there are a lot of them. I've heard people say they can't listen to the following artists solely because of the vocals:

The Hold Steady
Neil Young
Rapider Than Horsepower
The Dead Milkmen
The Joggers

god the more i think about it the longer this list could go on...

I can't believe you mentioned Rapider Than Horsepower. I currently have a friend in that band. And yeah, those vocals...

Corin Tucker probably fits in this category, eh?

Craig Wedren (Shudder to Think) comes to mind. I've found that most of my friends can't handle a lot of indie vocalists, especially those using falsetto and strobe vibrato a la Wedren and Tucker.

Oh, the dude from Belle & Sebastian. Just can't handle that fey voice which is too bad because those are some good songs.

Mars Volta

I second the Bob Dylan

The Offspring - I actually like some of their music, but must their lead singer always scream in the songs? He'd probably sound better if he just sang like a normal person.

Daniel Johnston - good one, PopTodd!

I'll second Mars Volta. I played it for a former co-worker, and he really dug the music, but hated the vocals.

Rush/Geddy Lee
Dream Theater/James LaBrie

A personal one: Gong -- would love to hear this as a purely instrumental outfit.

I didn't like Joy Division for the longest time because of Ian Curtis.

agree with the above, but that has all changed now.

First one that came to mind was Einar Orn from the Sugarcubes.
