Oneida and the Summer Tour: A Fairy Tale
If you don't want to hear about yet another Brooklyn-based band leaving the nest to spread their NYC brand of coolness to the rest of the country, then I would like to tell you that Oneida are not from Brooklyn. No. They are in fact from Kickass, Rocklandapolis, a tiny little suburb of Blow-Your-Fucking-Mind, South Dakota. They have, like, the best mall there.
Anyway, Oneida come from this place and they come bearing the gift of tourdates in support of The Wedding, their latest album in a series of latest albums. Seriously. These guys release albums like my grandma releases air biscuits. This latest of latest albums, however, boasts a bit of a new direction for the band as its songs have been constructed around the melodies created by a gigantic music box the band made out of plywood, salvaged marine pilings, industrial motor parts, and over seventy saw blades. A kinder, gentler Oneida is upon us, string arrangements and all. Awwwwww....
But not for long. Oneida have also let it be known via their website that they will be hitting the studio before hitting the road to get some work done on their album for next year, to be called Thank Your Parents. And I do believe that whispers of "triple album" have been bandied about. Holy fuck. How often do you get to type that? Not often, let me tell you. In fact, I'd like to type it again. Triple album. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
In other Oneida news, the folks at Jagjaguwar, the label behind The Wedding, as well as most of Oneida's full lengths, has allowed Oneida their own imprint to be called Brah Records. The first release from the label will be a split vinyl 12" featuring Oneida and Plastic Crimewave Sound sometime in September. Two full-lengths will be out in October, one from NYC's Company and the other from Pittsburgh's Dirty Faces.
