I feel like coming out of the local record shop $50-$100 bucks lighter and smelling like incense, so now I'm brainstorming. The thoughts so far...

Oranges Band :: The World And Everything In It
Sleater-Kinney :: The Woods
Ry Cooder :: Chavez Ravine

Gimme more.

Hey, if you happen to spot Teenage Neon Jungle by Candy (Gilby Clarke's pre-Guns'n'Roses power pop band) pick it up so's we can swap.

Edit: the new Tsar album is out too. Diggity Dawg in 5...4...3...

2nd Edit: also see the new Redwalls album Da Nova is out. I just heard a sample of "Robinson Crusoe" and it sounded facking great.

Can't think of anything off the top of my head but I will 2nd the Oranges Band album.

Solid.

May not be your cup of tea but Josh Rouse's Nashville has been getting a lot of spins from me lately. Some may find it bland and a bit polished but I think it's a great set of songs and great guitar pop record.

I'm thinking of doing the same. Tops on my list to check out/purchase are Clap Your Hands..., Deathray Davies, The Lucksmiths, and The Engineers. I'm also going to consider Mice Parade, The Go-Betweeners and The Mountain Goats. I'm hoping to come out of there with 2 or 3 new CDs.

They had a huge spread in our local paper last weekend. Their first left me kind of flat, and I don't know that a major label deal ever really helped anyone. I'm gonna wait and see on this one.

Okay, first the damage to the tune of $60:

Oranges Band, The World & Everything In It
Sleater-Kinney, The Woods
Ry Cooder, Chavez Ravine
The 101ers, Elgin Avenue Breakdown [From billy g's words the other day]
Love As Laughter, Laughter's Fifth [From Loogar via oldbulee]

I wasn't familiar with the Tsars and didn't realize it was power pop, and if I had been so enlightened I would have picked it up for nine bucks, cuz they had it.

The Josh Rouse doesn't do much for me, but I really like that song "Winter In The Hamptons".

I may be in the minority, but I think the Redwalls suck.

timmyjoe, I'm all paid up for now till next month and had some extra dough laying around, fucko.

These words?:

"101'ers were Joe Strummer's first band, pre the Clash. Its pub rock, not punk and really not all that special but its at least worth hearing."

I wouldn't call that a high recommendation. Its worth hearing mainly as a historical piece of interest, but there's lots of stuff I would recommend buying over it. Just making sure I didn't mislead you in case you still haven't opened it.

It was cheap, and I thought it could be interesting. Even if it's a bust, I still think you served well.

Feel the love.

But if you paid more this month, then you would have less to pay in the future.

That's a good price...I don't care for the production of the record, but it's a crackin' collection of songs. Crackin', I say!

I went to the record store at lunch and as I was pulling out the CDs I wanted to listen to, the power went out. Since I didn't want to end up buying any CDs I hadn't at least sampled, I came home (or back to work, rather) with only Deathray Davies - the cheapest of the ones I wanted.
