Just downloaded the new iTunes update and I was excited to see that it contained a podcast browser. Anyone out there know of any good podcasts or what the hell I should even be looking for?

didn't chuck D make this exact same thread today? and for that matter, maybe i'm late to the game but i don't understand why i should be excited about podcasting. cotton should make podcasts, that would be insightful.

Dammit! I did a search for podcast and Chuck D's post didn't come up.

Well, seeing as how no one replied to his topic, mine now seems useless.

but it's like a radio show that you just play whenever you want, right? i can't think of anyone that i would "subscribe" to, or how one would get into these things as a hobby. i guess that being a talk radio fan would be a good prerequisite.

It's because someone put the word 'pod' into the name, making it cool. People could have created and distributed these years ago, but it wasn't until someone called them 'podcasts' that people went 'OMGWTF!'

They're free at least. I started listening to the Electronic/IDM station a bit and it didn't sound too bad.

Harry Shearer's show is pretty cool, if you appreciate his dry sense of humor. I've been trying to get Al Franken's show to no avail (maybe too many users at once?).

The podcasting support in iTunes is a little weak. If you're on a Mac try IPodderX; Use IPodder if you've got Windows.

The only music-related podcast I've found that's worth a damn is the one done by CBC Radio 3. It focuses on new Canadian music and is done very professionally.

What happens if there's music in a podcast? Is this going to be the next thing the RIAA focuses on? I'm a little confused on this - never having bothered with a podcast before - and it's made even more confusing when I see that the Itunes store is "stocking" free podcasts.

...unless you clear the music you're using, which stations like CBC and NPR do.

Which is a fucking joke and not entirely true as podcasting is the smallest of specks on the RIAA radar... mix tapes aren't illegal and podcasting is the same thing.

Podcastalley.com looks like a decent podcast directory. I'm very intrigued by this show.

Podcast.net and podcastpickle.com are also good directories.

Distributing a mixtape to thousands of people wouldn't be illegal?

I would hope not... not charging for the service. I mean, c'mon, is the RIAA gonna suck every last ounce of fun from the music lovers?

Haven't they made a pretty good case for attempting to do that already?

Do stations like KEXP and Indie 103.1 have podcasts available?

That "Dead Air" show sounds interesting.
http://www.indie1031.fm/deadair.html

Went on the KCRW site and couldn't find a podcast link to the Sound Eclectic show. Perhaps I wasn't looking hard enough.

I found 2 shows from SOMA FM in SF that looks interesting. Indie Pop Rocks and Beat Blender.

Shows on the BBC radio like Steve Lamacq, are they available? or other shows of that ilk? How about satellite radio? I'm sure there's good stuff to be heard aswell.

So many questions. :D
