Some guy worked out a way to get Audioscrobbler to work with the iPod. Maybe someone here might care. I wish there were something similar for the iRiver.

The iRiver doesn't keep track of play counts. But if you asked the guys at Rockbox I bet they'd consider adding it to their firmware.

I almost installed Rockbox on my iRiver today, but I chickened out. I don't want to turn it into a paper weight.

I've been using it for over a week now. From what I've read it's pretty safe. No one has ruined their player yet. When it crashes (which happens less and less frequently with each daily build) a simple reset brings it back to life.

So far I'm loving being able to create playlists and listen to FLAC files. And now it supports gapless playback and crossfading.

It's the bootloader that can apparently fuck you hard, though, not the firmware.

But the MD5 hash matched up... so it should be safe...

Ok, i grew me some balls and installed the thing.

I've used it two minutes and I'm already impressed. The backlight fading out is pretty cool. I've got to read into this some more.

Thanks, smafty.

That is cool, isn't it? Especially since you can change the timing of it.

Try using a custom WPS screen. People are adding new ones all the time, and some even include custom graphics.

If you use AudioScobbler it's genious.

If not, you should.

If you do and use an iPod, than you should also use this tool that g found for us.

I never bothered with Audioscrobbler before because I listen to music on my Ipod, not my computer, generally, and don't have my Ipod auto-sync with Itunes, but this thing is reason enough for me to get on board. Pretty neat, but I wish it would list everything I listened to since the last update instead of just the most recent 11 tracks (and why 11?)

i think they have issues with their servers getting overloaded quite a bit. It should be counting all your submissions, but just showing the most recent for relevance. The cool part is the current most played, and most played songs and artists list.

And finding people who like some of the same obscure bands that you do and listening to their stations if you are a subscriber. I paid $1 to become a subscriber today to try that out.
