Can't say enough about this album. Remarkably consistent, IMHO.

Kind of like if The Smiths and The Strokes had a baby and allowed it to be raised on consecutive days of the week by Jeff Buckley, Lenny Kravitz, Jason Falkner, Andrew Bird and Alejandro Escovedo.

RIYL: Crooked Fingers, Brendan Benson, Jason Falkner, Lemonheads.

that sounds like the ugliest baby ever. i just hope it can play some instruments with the 37 arms it will have.

I don't like it when a band takes it's name from another bands song title. I dunno, it's just kind....you know....cloyingly referential.

I think it is their first album...Im overlooking the fact that you might be attempting coyness here.

Just forget my description and give it a spin. Ill be able to *ahem* send it to anyone who wants in a week or so, so you can decide for yourself. I know how music budgets are limited and all...hate to buy stuff you dont like without hearing it first and all.

I've mentioned it before but I went to high school with them, and I am pretty good friends with them. It's pretty weird to hear them mentioned here. Also my best friend's brother was their first label and manager. Until they screwed him. I've been meaning to get in touch with them because it's been a while.

As far as RIYL, I don't know. But I can say this that their favorite bands and influences are: Radiohead, Pixies, Walkmen, Coldplay, and David Bowie.

The lead singer played the most horrendus version of paranoid android at our high school talent show. Kinda funny now.

At least they picked my favorite song from that album. Still, it's a crappy band name.

I see a Lists post a-comin' 'round the mountain.

They were sort of terrible live, in a pretty awesome way. The drummer looked like terry gilliam in holy grail - some sort of moronic grimace:

and the lead singer played an electric keyboard . . . that they had hollowed out a classic electric organ to place it inside - stupidly pretentious.

I can't speak to what they sound like on disc, though, just that I spent 45 minutes making fun of them at sxsw.

But the question remains -- being from Louisiana, are they better than Better than Ezra? (No, I don't have a stuttering problem.) Will they make me forget how cool "Rosalia" was when I was an high-school freshman?

I doubt it. "Rosalia" remains awesome in my memory and opinion. But, yes... What of it?

nope, no coyness. but their first album, fit or faded was definitely a radiohead/travis influenced outing so your initial description sounded like a 180 from that. which would have been a bummer because i liked it.

What I'm hearing right now is definitely lacking in punches, so the title's not appropriate.

But it's delicate, textured, bright and clear-eyed Stipe-meets-Rundgrenhead stuff. High calibre, but not stunning.
