I'm sure this is old news to many, but I recently got this for my cousin's kid. Kid played it while I was visiting and it just...sounded different from what I remembered. I hadn't heard it in years and played my copy when I got home and, shit, it was different.

Come to find out that the 2002 release of Blizzard had been re-recorded by current Ozzy sidemen with the original guys Daisley & Kerslake "removed" from the album. :wtf:

This is all because Daisley and Kerslake were feuding with the Osbournes(re:Sharon) and they didn't want the two to get any more royalties from the back catalogue. At least that's how I understood it.

I have never heard of any kind of shit like this.

Anyway, this was 3 years ago and at the time I believe Daisley and Kerslake were suing. Anyone know how this was(or wasn't) sorted out?

Steve

Good christ. I'm sick of Osbournes.

If recall correctly, the worst part is that is was reissued without any mention of the changes.

I'm glad I have an old version.

Ozzy's a dim, thick bastard. And Sharon is a dirty whore.

You would be correct. No mention whatsoever on the outside of the package. I later found out that the liner notes mention it in sorta an offhand way.

On a related note, Paul McCartney will soon be reissuing Beatles' albums sans Lennon songs.

As far as the fans are considered, it is not resolved, and will not be until they reissue the songs as they were originally recorded, with the band members at the time.

I posted on this about a year ago in one of the remastering threads. My understanding is that "Diary" came out even worse. I wouldn't part with my originals for the world. "Diary" was on my Listmania, although in retrospect it should have been rated higher than the 50's to 60's as I had it.

I recall seeing Rudy Sarzo being interviewed on VH-1 and he even talked about how crappy Kerslake and Daisley got treated, and he was one of the prime beneficiaries.

This is such bad idea.

Blizzard Of Ozz is perhaps Ozzy's best solo work. Why fuck with that for more money?

This whole broo-ha ha dates way back to when Diary was released. The album credits Tommy Aldridge and Rudy Sarzo, even though all the playing and songwriting included Messrs. Kerslake and Daisley.

After years of feuding, Sharon went def-con twelve and had the original bass and drum re-recorded for the re-masters. Kind of like Stalin erasing any trace of his predecessors.

Huh? I'll have to check my copy, but I'm pretty sure on previous pressings, that the credits reflect reality accurately. I think they just changed the credits on the remaster as well. You may have a remaster/re-recording. Anyone have access to allmusic.com? They can click on credits and double-check.

What does it say?

I'm going to have to try and find old ones now. I only have the first remaster of Blizzard Of Ozz.

As far as I know, Shiv, it's only the 2002 release that they screwed with. I think the release previous to that was in '95 and that's fine.

On the next to last page of the insert it lists who produced and performed on the original album.

Then a few paragraphs down it lists the reissue info and unless you were looking for it you wouldn't even notice that Daisley and Kerslake have been swapped for Robert Trujillo and Mike Bordin.

That's as far as it goes. No other explanation.

If anyone has older copies, can they confirm or deny?

My original Diary of Madman album credits Tommy Aldridge on drums and Rudy Sarzo on Bass. The band photo is of them, which was the touring band. Kerslake and Daisley were called in for the studio sessions.

Kerslake and Daisley sued successfully in the late-80's for song-writing royalties.
