I've been lurking for a while, but the new Charts have made me decide to actually become a member since I'm obsessed with rating and ranking things.

My favorite artists include Husker Du, The Replacements, Stereolab, Dinosaur Jr., Cocteau Twins, Ween, etc. I don't know how many of you are into those specific bands, but it seems like most of us have relatively similar taste in general.

Look forward to posting here.

I'm not so sure.
I think he's walking around with his head in the clouds.

Welcome!

And I am a child of the 70's, grew up in the 80's and came of age in the 90's... so your list of favorites strikes a chord with me. Nice to meet you. SST ruled the 1980's, IMO.

Sweet, I'm glad we could lure you in. Are you a former CMJ lurker?

Oops, I fixed that. I'm from Richmond.

By the way, does anyone else feel that Dinosaur Jr.'s self titled album is their best? It's something that I inevitably end up asking on every forum, as I have not found anyone else who will agree with me on this. In my opinion, You're Living All Over Myself is nearly as good, but doesn't quite capture the same energy or quality of songwriting as the original.

Yeah, I used to read it a while ago, but then stopped after a while. I came back one day and discovered everyone was gone, and I was led to Obner, which I've read off and on for the last few months.

Welcome. Nice list of bands you're into. Afraid I must disagree with you regarding Dinosaur Jr. I prefer YLAOM and even Bug to their debut.

I think Bug is the worst of the three. I mean it's still a good album, but after the first two tracks, it just sort of turns into a generic mess with a couple highlights. But don't get me wrong - I'd still rather listen to Dinosaur Jr's "generic mess" than 90% of all other bands.

And no...you must call me Makes No Sense At All, fully typed out, at all times.

How about your favourite Stereolab? You like early or late period best, the dividing line being Mars Audiac.

For some reason, it's harder for me to pick a favorite Stereolab album than it is to pick a favorite for any other artist.

Oddly enough, my least favorite album by them is Emperor Tomato Ketchup. I used to prefer the earlier period best, with the Neu-influenced stuff like "Jenny Ondioline" and "Ping Pong," but now I probably prefer the later albums. If I had to pick a favorite, it would probably be Dots & Loops, although on certain days that answer could easily be Cobra and Phases..., or even Transient Random-Noise...

I usually will say Dots and Loops if asked what my favourite is, but yeah, there are times when I will definitely say Mars Audiac because of the style of Jenny Ondioline and Ping Pong. Sound Dust is not without its moments either. I haven't listened to Cobra..in awhile, it never really grew on me, but I shouuld probably spin it soon. If you haven't picked up Oscillons From The Anti Sun I highly recommend it.
