Bleecker Bob's is pricey, but it's your best bet for vinyl, especially 7" singles, unless by "record" you mean compact disc. I don't think Sounds on St. Marks sells vinyl anymore. Is Second Coming still in business. Those were my haunts when I was a little 'un.

Some people recommended Acadamy Music in some other thread. I've never been there.

aural, it turns out that i am a pretty reclusive dude. i'm sure we've crossed paths at some shows though.

anyway, i'm not likely to ever get out of la completely because work will always bring me and the wife back, so don't smash up your keyboard over my depature.

A simple "hello, nice to meet ya" and a handshake would suffice. But, I understand if you have a Howard Hughes complex. :)

i always get all excited when i got to NYC record stores, but when i get there i realize, "i could get all this stuff in philly, but cheaper and not have to lug it around all day."

Academy - 18th bet 5th and 6th is pretty good, and a lot of cheap surprises lurk in their shelves.

Other Music - 4th (off of Lafayette), across from Tower Video...98% indie store...wont find much mainstream stuff there.

Sounds (on st marks) - cheap mainstream stuff. they stll have a small vinyl section.

Second coming - i can picture, but i think is gone...

Kims (on st marks) - pretty good indie music section, as wellas top notch dvd section.

those are pretty much all i frequent, and can usually find whatever i am looking for at one of em....also , i live within 10 blocks of all of em...heh heh.

I went to Other Music saturday morning but I didn't buy anything. It seemed a little expensive. I did buy Dog Soldiers from Tower Video across the street.

I went to Other Saturday afternoon and picked up Arthur Russell's "World of Echo" and Van Dyke Park's "Song Cycle".( My boss handed me the latter and told me to buy it, I wisely obliged.) And $40 later ...

I went to Kim's today and bought "The World of Arthur Russell" and "Sung Tongs". Another $40 later ...
