anyone ever been? I scoured some past threads here and Babe mentioned Cala Luna in Tamarindo. I'd love to hear some info on this or other places in CR.

my aunt and uncle went and wouldn't shut up about it, but funnily enough I don't remember what they raved about.

My brother-in-law went there and picked up a handmade nylon-string guitar for about $300 US, direct from the luthier. Beautiful instrument.

I have heard nothing but great things about Costa Rica. Don't go to Thailand like we did. Very complicated.

Hmmm. I've been there, but it was when I was studying abroad. We had like 8am classes and we went out just about every night. My point...I don't remember shit. I know the country is beautiful and the people are extremely welcoming. The food! We primarily stayed in San Jose. Do the rainforest, white-water rafting, the volcanoes, etc. I'd love to go back there. The Wailers played I think at La Tortuga or whatever it's called.

the only bad thing i've ever heard about costa rica was from the one guy who makes south park. said he based the one where they go to the rainforest on it. must've been an interesting trip, to say the least.

If yr going to do the beach thing, stay on the Pacific side. The volcanoes thing is definitely neat- Arunal (sp?) is the one I saw. IIRC. There's a huge national park in the southwest corner of the country that I only barely saw much of- can't remember the name right now, and at work so no time to research. It's the most unspoiled part of the country, according to the locals I talked with. The rafting trips are fun, but unless yr very adventurous, stay off the higher class rivers, as muffuggas do die on them every week. The gold museums in San Jose are pretty impressive as well. All in all, prepare to have a lot of fun, and try some of the grilled chicken cooked over coffee wood- it's everywhere and GOOOOOD.

We stayed Jardin Del Eden in Tamarindo. Best vacation ever. Rent a 4-wheel drive vehicle and spend a day or two at Tabocan.

I stayed in Tamarindo for 9 days. It's great. If you walk all the way to the end of the road to the south, there is a restaurant called PEDRO'S. Me and my clan ate there just about every night. It's flippin' great. outdoor seating.

When are you going? You do NOT want to go during the rainy season if you are plannin on travelling around. The roads are pretty much all flooded. I wouldn't suggest going until about mid-december. You could try your luck before that, but don't say I didn't warn you...

Oh man. I think I am going back in December myself. hopefully the week before xmas.

I definitely second the notion of getting a 4wheel Drive vehicle. It's the only way. And for the love of GOD do some surfing while you are there. Over 200 world class breaks or something ridiculous.

Costa Rica, just like Hawaii but a third the cost.

she works for a school, so we're going after she gets out. I don't know when the rainy season is, but I've had friends who have gone during june and july and had no problems. I take it that's the hit or miss time?

Rainy season is thru summer and I don't think it's all that bad. (starts in march maybe?) I was there during the summer and yes, it rains often, but it's done by like 3. I wouldn't worry about this much, unless we totally lucked out that summer.

Yeah, I think it's luck during the rainy season. I have friends that go frequently and sometimes they come back with horrible stories of the weather. Besides, the further away you get from san jose, the more the rain becomes a factor.

I think that Juneish time is nearing the beginning of it. December is pretty much the end. You could be fine in (our) summer time...
