With the Bears less than a week away from launching their 2005 training camp, our previously hibernating Chicago mole tells us that there is growing concern within the organization regarding the condition of quarterback Rex Grossman's knee.

Grossman tore an ACL on a non-contact play against the Vikings in September 2004, and he missed the rest of the season.

Word is that Grossman's knee is still swelling slightly from time to time, and that he often is seen limping around Halas Hall.

The upside is that the Bears love rookie Kyle Orton, a fourth-rounder from Purdue who could end up Bledsoeing the starter Grossman if he misses any significant time due to his past or future injuries.

I'd rather have Orton as a starter anyway, even though he's a rook.

Orton started last season very Heisman like & then fell apart once Purdue started playing good teams. It'll be interesting to see if he can be an NFL QB.

By the way, please tell me I'm not the only non Chi-towner on here that read this & said "Rex Grossman who?"

my friend used to be his youth group leader in high school and the guy was super christian - then he dated a playboy bunny - i think guilt tore him apart. he was an unbelievable athlete in high school though.

Yeah... and it's actually pretty good. With the cake walk schedule this year... no playoffs = Angelos goes bye-bye.

I wouldn't count Rex out yet... I'll wait to see him at camp first.
