So I'm thinking of going to one of the above-mentioned countries for a week, probably around October/November, and I'm trying to decide between them. Any suggestions or advice? (I know a bunch of you have been to Costa Rica from reading Robotboy's recent thread- which was very helpful).

I guess I'm interested in a nice balance of eco-tourism and culture, maybe with a little beach time.

Also, if you know of any websites that have good info or message boards relevant to these places, that would be cool, too. Thanks.

Costa Rica is cheap a shit so if you're on a budget, go there.

I want to visit Brazil sometime. One third of my Power, Authority and Governance class was pretty much devoted to showing how cool it is.

I think that this is weird, as within a year this board will have answers to all of these questions, if it doesn't already.

I spent 5 weeks in Peru with a couple days stop over in Sao Paulo last year. Good times. Loads of tourists in Peru - very safe, lots of petty crime. I just hung out in downtown Sao Paulo the few days I was there. Maybe I wasn't really looking but I don't remember bumping into any other tourists while I was there. Everyone was real nice though, despite the fact I had no idea what they were saying. My Portugese language skills are pretty much non-existent and my Spanish is VERY poor. I'd love to go back and spend some time on the coast. I think Billy G has spent some time in Rio so he'd probably have some good advice on that area of the country.
