DOORS BANNED FROM USING NAME

Former DOORS drummer JOHN DENSMORE has won a ruling stopping his old bandmates using the band’s name.

The Doors of the 21st Century featuring original keyboard player Ray Manzarek and guitarist Robby Krieger had been touring and playing the Doors’ songs, however an order by the Los Angeles Superior Court on July 22 declared they may no longer use the band’s name and must share all profits with the original Doors partnership, reports Reuters.

Manzarek and Krieger had recruited former Cult singer Ian Astbury in 2003 to replace late frontman Jim Morrison, but Densmore along with Morrison’s parents and widow objected and subsequently began legal action.

Under a 1971 agreement between the band, all three surviving members and Morrison’s estate must agree any use of the Doors name and logo.

Responding to the ruling in a statement, Densmore said: "I'm just so happy that the legacy of the true Doors, and Jim Morrison in particular, has been preserved by this decision".

The Doors of the 21st Century have yet to comment.

I suggest they tour as The Golden Scarab or the Danny Sugarman Three.

Surprisingly, the man who clashed with Morrison the most during his lifetime, actually respects and honors the music they made.

Manzarek can go to hell, I hate that moneygrubbing cocksucker. Hooray for John!

I agree that this is a good decision. I'm all for preserving band's legacies.

But still, a respectful decision.

I had ringside seats for a concert 3 or 4 days after Jim dashed his doodle in Miami. It was cancelled. Screw Ray Manzarek on the best of days

The name "Doors of the 21st Century" has a good ring to it, and for many of the fans, I am sure the doors to something recorded in this century do need opening.
plus there's automatic commercial tie-ins with the real estate folks, and everyone knows real estate folks are money grubbin' too!
IMHO, going to see a re-creation of a band isn't much to get excited about.

Ouch.

He died earlier this year. I had no fucking clue about this til about a week or two ago when I saw some mention about it somewhere on the net.

His book Wonderland Avenue is one of my all-time favorite books. Entertaining as all hell.

I've read it a couple of times, although I found him more than a little obnoxious. I also read that he admitted a couple of years ago that some of the stories and events that were recounted were exaggerated. I'ven never found the original source where that admission came from, however. Even if half of it is true though, that's an insane couple of years he lived.
