I saw this guy at practically every stage act I was at. Who the hell is he? I asked several local Chicagoans, but none could give me a straight answer.

Guided by Voices made their "My Kind Of Soldier" video as a tribute to the dude. You see him do is wicked dance moves.

He's been to like 10 000+ shows in his life. You got lot's of catching up to do T if you wanna be in his league. :-)

Beatle Bob is 43-year-old Bob Matonis, a music fanatic who has been doing his Deadhead-with-better-taste act for the better part of two decades.

43?!? Damn, I thought he was more like 53! Oh wait, I just realized the article was written in 1996, so yeah, I guessed correctly.

Alright then, I NOW know who Beatle Bob is. Crazy! I can only aspire to have his music collection or attend that many shows. Craziness.

From what I've heard he's quite the asshole. He tries to use his "celebrity" to get into shows for free, and doesn't seem to care if his dancing affects others who are close to him in a crowded space.

Yeah that's what Josh told me on sunday. That there are a lot of people in the business who think he's a mooching dickhead and supposedly he's conned some bands out of free merch by saying he still works for a magazine that doesn't exist anymore. And he just shows up to these things expecting to get in for free.

That's just ridiculous. It's funny the first one or two times you see him(i first saw him when I was watching Liz Phair) but after that it's just plain dumb.

I frickin' LOVE Beatle Bob!

EDIT: Though I wasn't aware of his dickheadedness, so perhaps I should retract, or at least reduce the emphasis of my above statement.

Anyway, I get a kick out of seeing him in that GBV video.

i know how cool it must seem to go to shows every night, or like 1.12 each night, but doesn't anyone else think that's kinda sad too? i mean, it's great that he works with kids and can take the time off, but there's more than just going to shows. i like to hang out with friends. it seems that this guy doesn't do anything outside of shows. sad? no? okay. i'll be quiet and let you all praise some annoying guy that thinks he's deserved extra-wide personal space at every show.

I think it's pretty lame.

Plus, if this dipshit thinks because he has a stupid gimmick he deserves extra-wide personal space, well he can just kiss my extra white ass.

Shit, I go to about 50-60 shows per year and think THAT'S a lot. As much as I love going to shows, I need a break. 'Sides, I like doing other things too like travelling and drinking and eating and shopping and posting on Obner and...you get the picture.
