Sorry to say I've never heard of this band, but by Domino's description, I am very intrigued. From Domino, the following news:

Quote:
Domino is excited to announce a collection of unreleased recordings by the seminal Scottish group Fire Engines, who recently reformed at Franz Ferdinand's request for their mammoth Glasgow SECC show. Titled 'Codex Teenage Premonition', the album features alternate studio recordings of tracks that became their first single and album, plus live recordings, including their first ever gig!

Formed in 1980, they were part of the scene that produced Orange Juice, Aztec Camera and Josef K. Fire Engines shows were and still are, short sharp aggressive shocks of jagged guitars and frantic rhythms, as heard on their 'Lubricate Your Living Room' album and two compelling Peel sessions, a huge influence on today's young indie guitar bands.

The band perform two rare shows to celebrate: 11th September at Glagow's Optimo night at Sub Club, and 17th September at The I.C.A. in London.

Can anyone tell me more?

I think they're an older band, from 1980 or so and hung out with the Postcard records groups. The guitars are somewhat jagged, and rhythms tend to be on the frantic side.

Their records have been unavailable for ages, virtually since they were released in the early eighties so I've not so much as heard a single note of the Fire Engines. However they are regarded as one of the most important post-punk groups by those in the know.

Davy Henderson, the main man in the Fire Engines, has since released some good music under various other band names (most recently Nectarine No.9, who made my Top Twenty last year) so that coupled with the fact that I like the bands that came out of Glasgow and Edinburgh around that time (OJ's Aztec Camera, Josef K, Altered Images etc etc) means I'll probably snapping this up, quick smart.

I had a friend put "Candy Skin" by the Fire Engines on a mix tape for me years ago. Loved the song, but never found anything else by them available anywhere. As a matter of fact, I had forgotten about them completely until I saw this thread. Good call.
