Who do you think is the worst person to work for? Obvious not to the person actually working for these companies, because that's a damned easy question, but as far as the impact on others and the community/world in general? I'm just curious to guage the general opinion 'round here.

if anyone doesn't know by now that there's 9000 things in smokes that'll kill'em then i need to introduce them to the therapeutic value of sucking on bullets.

None. I could and would work for any and all of these with a clear conscience.

Alcohol -- makes me feel good, if I drive and kill someone, that's MY fault, not Anheuser Busch

Guns -- Down in these parts, guns are a tool, hunting a way of life, and Democrats get endorsed by the NRA.

Tobacco -- If you are dumb enough to smoke, you gots probs beyond me working for them. I do agree that if they put things in there to make it addictive, they should have the pants sued off em.

Pharma -- Though I hate them, they do good. How else would geriatric sex offenders get a woody if not for Viagra? (plus, the gf is a pharma rep...giving me easy pickins)

Wal Mart -- all you assholes who decry them destroying neighborhoods and mom and pops -- SPARE ME. Wal Mart is fucking awesome if you live in a place like Enterprise, AL.

And Dalen -- ConAgra's great, I got a week of free lunches on those cowboy hat wearing a-holes when I worked in DC

okay, i should clarify that when I said weapons manufacturers I wasn't talking about Colt or Browning (though the fucking .50 caliber issue is fucking ridiculous from ANY standpoint), but more the biggies like Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, etc...

I already know loog's response won't really change with that clarification, but I feel like the distinction must be made regardless. I like guns, they are our right in this country for better or worse. I'm just against the ones that can destroy whole towns or shoot through airplanes and whatnot.

and maybe handguns, that's a sticky one.

Wal-Mart is fucking garbage, & bad for the USA. I don't care if it's the only place to shop in town or not. I grew up in a small town where it was the only place to go, but that doesn't make it right.

I don't mind Wal-Mart, nor do I shop there.

I also want a Wal-Mart to move into this prissy fucking town, to up the competition factor a good bit. And I still probably wouldn't shop there.

There are two in Glen Burnie [Ordnance Road & New Cut Road] and one in Bowie, but none in or particularly near Annapolis.

obviously biased here, but i think, as loog said, pharma generally does good and is a benefit to society. the problems lie mostly in their occasionally atrocious PR decisions and the fact that they are mostly publicly traded companies who are often beholden to stockholders.

Well, I work for an a liquor company and I drink heavily so I certainly couldn't vote for that.

Tobacco, as has been said, is a personal choice.

As evil as Wal-Mart is, I still shop there occasionally. Hypocritical, I know.

Pharmecutical companies are just as dispicable as the rest of the list, but I had to go with weapon manufacturors. I'm not a gun control advocate by any means, but I just think guns are pointless. And I'm vehemently against hunting.

Youd be amazed how many drugs are not realised by pharmaceutical companies because there is no profit in doing so. A lot of drugs take so long to research, that there is no way the company can recoup it's losses on the market before the patent wears off - and generic brand versions can be put on the market by other companies.

it's true. . . because. . .

i don't necessarily agree with the arms race for "blockbuster" meds. the consoldation going on the industry doesn't help either. i really think a widening and strengthing of the "orphan drug" act would do a lot of good.
