I am quite intrigued, but perhaps should wait until it's out on DVD so that I can watch in the privacy of my own home vs squirming in a random movie theatre. From Ambitious-Outsiders:

It started out as a typical Friday evening. My other half and I were deciding on where to venture for the night. After taking a quick look at the shows list, we figured why not watch a film. So onwards we went to the Sunset 5. Not knowing a thing about the film, I took a glimpse at the 9 Songs poster on the wall. Interesting. How perfect, since we can't go to a show tonight, at least we can listen to some sweet background music. Right then and there we got two tickets for the 8pm show.

We still had about a hour to kill. Shopped at Virgin for a bit, then headed back to the car for a quick lift before the film. We walk in the theatre and take our (uncomfortable) seats. The film starts, the narrator Matt tells his story. He recalls his relationship with Lisa, an American tourist. They were together for a year, the average length of a solid relationship for a couple in their early 20's.

They met at the Brixton Academy during a Black Rebel Motorcycle Club show. Now the great thing about this film is that you actually feel as though you're at the show. The two meet for the first time, after the show what else but go back to his place for a severe dose of reality. What could have been a one night stand develops into a one year relationship.

For the rest of the film, every new scene starts off like any particular day followed by a show (Von Bondies, Franz Ferdinand, Elbow, etc.) and onto some wild animalistic primal fucking. Just to let you know, the sex in them film is actually real. You will see penetration, and the oh so popular money shot. I imagine that some people will automatically label this as a a porno and tell you it's a waste of celluloid. They don't know any better, so just let them be. It felt real, because it was. I've gone through it, and therefore I am speaking from experience. But as with most of all relationships in your 20s, the two lovers separate and carry on with their lives. The memories however will last a lifetime.

Directed by Michael Winterbottom, 9 Songs to me is an accurate portrayal of modern day lovers. Possibly the most honest film I've seen in a long time.

9 Songs
Directed by : Michael Winterbottom (24 Hour Party People)
Playing exclusively @
Laemmle Sunset 5
8000 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90046

A little bit of trivia for 9 Songs provided by IMDB.com

'Margot Stilley' never wanted to be credited in the film. She asked the director to refer to her in interviews as "Lisa", the name of her character in the film.

This was the first film featuring explicit sex scenes to receive a certificate in the Republic of Ireland.

The first sexually explicit film to be directly awarded a French mainstream certificate (and not the "X classification" created in 1975 for "pornographic or violence-inciting movies").

The sex scenes were shot with only the two actors, the director, the cameraman, and the soundman on the set.

Director Winterbottom shot over 200 hours of digital video.

The two leads only had three days to get acquainted before filming.

Here is the soundtrack for 9 Songs:

"Whatever Happened To My Rock and Roll" - BRMC
"C'mon C'mon" - The Von Bondies
"Madan (Exotic Disco Mix)" - Salif Keita
"Fallen Angel"- Elbow
"Michael" - Franz Ferdinand
"Movin' On Up" - Primal Scream
"The Last High" - The Dandy Warhols
"Horse Tears" - Goldfrapp
"Slow Life" - Super Furry Animals
"I've Got Your Number" - Elbow
"Jacqueline" - Franz Ferdinand
"Love Burns" - BRMC

I can't see next week's schedule, so don't know if it's only playing this week. Laemmle theatres tend to only show movies for two weeks, I think.

My roommate watched it and said it was just a good idea gone bad.
