I've never met anyone with good taste in music who likes Led Zeppelin. Or anyone who likes Led Zeppelin that I'd give any credibility towards.

However, on the whole, I consider the obner population to have "good taste" in music.

So, does anyone here actually like them? If so, feel free to offer up some points or arguments in their defense.

I personally have never been able to stomach seven minute songs, wankery guitar solos, fey vocals, or any of that other stuff that mainstream seventies music is predominatly known for. That's just me, though.

I'll be the first to say I liked them in high school and still respect them a shiteload. I've even started listening to them again now and then.

Damn good band, in my opinion.

PS I almost said something about Bohnam's drumming but I thought it would sound too pathetic.

One or two decent songs, the rest unremarkable. I generally prefer cover versions.

I liked them alot in highschool. My dad use to make fun me for it. I still dig 'when the levee breaks' but thats about it. I have 2 friends that love led zepplin and listen to the same shit as everyone else on here.

I listened to them a lot in high school. I don't think I ever owned any of their albums though, they were just always on in cars and at parties, etc.

I haven't spent any time listening to them in a number of years. I did buy the DVD set that came out a while ago but I've yet to watch it.

I'm not part of the pop;ultation that worships them like gods, but I think they are a great band.

I didn't want to give this a serious response, but:

I mean, they're a good band, but they're easy to make fun of. They were great musicians and not-so-great songwriters. The production on all of their albums is excellent. Jimmy Page knew how to get some amazing guitar sounds in the studio.

I still have all of their albums, and enjoy at least a few songs on each. The lyrics are of course mostly horrible as are a lot of the gratuitous guitar solos and extended wank-fests like "Moby Dick". But you can't deny how well they played together and just how tight, versatile, and powerful their rhythm section was.

All criticisms of their overwrought epics are mostly accurate, but I think their more concise songs stand up pretty well. "Immigrant Song", "Heartbreaker", "Dancing Days", etc.

Wow. That's damn dismissive of you.

I like a lot of Zeppelin's catalog. I listened to them much more in high school, but still do from time to time. I don't really have very good taste in music, though, and I am pretty old.

Oh come on Radcliffe....you don't like anything from these guys? Not even No Quarter? It doesn't make you wanna put on one of those old 3/4 sleeved shirts you have tucked away in your closet and go get shitty drunk in some field all alone?

They are a great band, and if you are judging them based on hearing their radio "singles" (they never ACTUALLY released a single, but you know what I mean), you are making a big mistake

A ton of stuff on Zep III and Physical Graffitii is sadly overlooked

:rawk:

The truth is that I never did like 'em. Zep were one of the bands I tried to get into and failed back in my junior high days. With Zep I found I liked some of the music, but as soon as Plant started shrieking I was outta there. And they were, after all, one of the prime targets of hate from that '77 era of punk - and not for nothing.

And my dislike of pretty much all metal precluded me from ever owning one of those 3/4 sleeved shirts.

But getting drunk in a field alone? Every Tuesday afternoon for the last 30 years.

I've always really liked them, never slavishly or anything. I still listen to LZ III and quite regularly. I've got the box set which I've cribbed together into one great mix on my ipod. There's lots of fantastic songs you'd never hear on the radio. I fucking hate the radio for this very reason.

Never realized it wasn't cool to enjoy them.

They lost me after the first album- it was bombastic fun in a 1969 hallucinatory, I've- never-heard-the-real-blues-songs-that-these-white-boys-are-blatantly-stealing-from-so-I-don't-know-any-better-than-to-think-it's-pretty-fucking-original-music kind of way. By LZ II, I was more aware of things. And I always thought J. Page was enjoyable as far as guitar-wankers went.

There are bands... like J. Geils, The Strokes, Soundgarten, White Stripes, Van Halen, ACDC... that I would never choose to buy (ok, the strokes and white stripes I did buy...) but there is something nakedly, um...shallow... about them. But when I hear them, especially when I head them played very loud... I enjoy it.

Zep... before the dawn of recorded history there were Beatles people, Stones people, and Zep people... the only people one of reasonable intelligence could talk to without either wanted to laugh or vomit were Stones people. Eventually the Zep people died out when an asteroid hit the earth, there was high stratospheric clouds that caused a drop in temperature, and Never Mind the Bollocks was released.

My two favorites of theirs.

LZ III is in my top 100 and probably always will be.
