...the Dandy Warhols. Are they good? Watching DIG! yesterday peaked my interest. So, I'd like to hear a couple albums to see if they're as good as they sound in that movie.

I love the heroin song and the Bohemian one as well. If it's gonna be more of this, then I'm stoked. But, if they sound more like BJM, then YELCH, save it.

Hook a brother up teachers!

Oh come on, BJM is light years better than the Dandy Warhols.

I have one of their discs...maybe "Welcome to the Monkey House"..its a solid OK. Two or three pretty good songs, 2 or 3 that are unlistenable.

Get Kurtz to send it to you.

13 Tales is the only album I have from them and I like it a bunch. I think most people would agree it's their best.

Of course, I like BJM too!!

Welcome To The Monkey House is pure crap. Go with 13 Tales from Urban Bohemia...their best, in my opinion.

I agree with this too. I'd wait for a greatest hits to come out.

The songs you heard on Dig! are the best of the bunch. 13 Tales is a good place to start, and then work backwards.

I saw their new video on Friday. It kinda sucked.

Okay, maybe I need to hear an actual album, cause there was ONE song in that whole movie that I thought, "Hmmmm, maybe this guy actually does have talent".

Anybody got? PM me.

Okay, so anybody got 13 Tales? I'd be willing to trade you some of the worst music ever created.

I would agree with this. They are about to (or already have) release a new album. I heard a track on the radio a week or so ago, and it sounded like re-hashed Monkey House. I think they are about 2-3 years past their expiration at this point.

BJM - Take it from the Man!

After watchin' Dig! I was sure BJM was way better than the Dandy's. Even though Anton seemed a drugged out, schizo, self-centered ass, he clearly is talented. I thought it was pretty cool for even the Dandy's to admit Anton's a better songster and maybe even go down historically as an unsung hero for his type music and the influence he may hold on others.

I've got "13 Tales from Urban Bohemia" and honestly haven't listened to it much after the first rotation. I'm listening again now for the benefit of Busty, and to determine if I want to use my last blank CD.

To my ear many of the tracks are very reminiscent of Love and Rockets only a bit lighter with more soundscape layers. Strummy acoustic guitars and booming bass drum sound.

"Solid" sounds like Iggy Pop singing with Stereophonics. Very hook driven.

"Sleep" and "The Gospel" are relentless dirges. SKIP

"Shakin" another Iggy soundalike tune.

An altogether not unpleasant listen. I skipped around a bit so my review may not as fair as it might be had I the patience to listen to the whole thing.

I also prefer BJM to what I've heard of the Dandy's; I'm not so sure though that you would like BJM at all though Busty (just knowing like I do);

BTW guys, you can d-load all of the "classic" BJM albums for FREE off of their website.

I'd also be interested in hearing somemore Dandies or a good mix of their alleged "best"

Also I'd like to reitterate that DIG! made me want to choke out/smash with a claw hammer the Dandy's tambourine/keyboard chick.(Smelly Smellenstein I believe?)

i have tried at the behest of others several times to get into the dandys and cannot do it. they sound so crappingly bland to me that it never worked. To be fair though, BJM didn't blow me away. much better, but nothing to freak out about IMO.

I thought the Dandy's first couple albums were fairly dull but held some promise. Both sounded kinda like Lou Reed trying to rip off Spiritualized, except without any sense of songcraft. 13 Tales was the one where Courtney Taylor (Taylor) Taylor-Taylor learned how to write an actual song. It was derivative as all hell (check out the blatant rip of the "Brown Sugar" riff on "Boho Like You"), but somehow managed to still be an enjoyable listen.

The updated Duran Duran-isms of Monkey House might have been an interesting move if Courtney TaylortaylorTAYLORtaylor could have stumbled upon a hook or two. As it is, "You Were My Last High" is the only song I'd ever consider putting on a mix (well, maybe "Rock Bottom" if I was making a mix based on failed T.Rex imitations).

I don't hold out a lot of hope for this new one.

I would recommend not bothering with the Dandys. I've got a couple of friends who love them, but really only because they did coke with them backstage.

I've never heard them outside of DIG! but one of their tunes is the theme song to the UPN show Veronica Mars.

The only album I have by the Dandy Warhols is Come Down. I think I like a song or two on their first album too. I don't care for any of their other albums, or BJM for that matter.

The only BJM I've heard is on DIG and I thought it was so bad that it was funny. The Dandy's have some fun singles, but I can't make it through a whole album.
