Berserk sports fan to die for wife's slaying

He attacked her with hammer when she interrupted his TV viewing

The Associated Press
Updated: 2:11 p.m. ET Aug. 4, 2005

PANAMA CITY, Fla. - A man who got angry with his wife because she wanted to cuddle after sex when he wanted to watch sports on television was sentenced to death for killing her with a claw hammer.

Christopher Offord, 30, was sentenced Wednesday by Circuit Judge Dedee Costello, who said the brutality of the crime outweighed any mental problems Offord may have had.

“The defendant struck his wife approximately 70 individual blows after spending a happy interlude with her,” the judge said. “Her desire to cuddle after sex does not justify the extremely violent, brutal response of the defendant.”

Offord pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the 2004 slaying of Dana Noser, 40, at his apartment.

He confessed to a bartender at a sports bar before his arrest. He told investigators that his wife had been nagging him to come back to bed.

Offord did not speak in court but said in a jailhouse interview in June: “I figured I killed her so I deserve to die.”

Shit! If I had a blog, I could've blogged it -- it said so right there in the little link after the article.

Not really on topic, but it gives me a reason to take advantage of the odd opportunity of getting on Obner from work several attempts in a row . . .

I'm not a sports fan, I really don't care, never followed sports, etc. All the women I knew always said how I'll make the perfect boyfriend/husband (and yet they never wanted me - what up with that?!) because, as we all know, women don't like sports, in general. So who did I end up marrying? A woman who loves sports! She loves the White Sox (family is from Chicago,) follows our Diamondbacks, watches baseball on TV, attends ASU football games, watches them too on TV (not into basketball, thank God.) And now I get to "enjoy" all this too. That's my luck!

However, it's a fair trade off - she rarely makes a negative comment about all the strange music I routinely entertain her with (she only would not bend on Rage Against The Machine when I went through a brief infatuation with them, after which I just found them really annoying, a fact for which she was very thankful.) I think I'm pretty lucky to have a wife who manages to either completely ignore the stuff I'm listening to (say, Can, for example) or laugh with me about it (John Zorn's Naked City stuff with that Japanese guy screaming all over it. How can you ignore that?)

You know...that is a lousy reaction, but...there are some guys who get depressed after sex...perhaps he was one such? Not trying to justify his actions, they were still extreme.

“Her desire to cuddle after sex does not justify the extremely violent, brutal response of the defendant.”

And what might justify it, your Judgeness?

*disclaimer: I know that the wife in above case indicated that the sexual act(s) preceding dismemberment were not consensual, thus her re-action was justified... But, come on, the joke is so obvious - why am I even using it?

I'm a damn uncreative son of a bitch.
