i saw krs-one (and busy bee!) speak last night in lawrence, kansas in what he calls a "sermonar" for an organization known as the
temple of hip hop. several observations:
1) krs-one wears a bedazzled t-shirt with his own face on it.
2) the temple of hip hop seems about two degrees removed from being a bunch of hippies (the representative was one patchouli lookin' suburbanite known as "zinaru." i am assuming this is not his christian name)
3) hip hop activists are just as ineffectual as most activists. (the meeting resulted in the determination to have another meeting)
4) krs-one sounds like a motivational speaker. verbatim example: "how can you use hip hop to better your life situation?"
5) members of the temple of hip hop are invited to fast and break bread with krs-one in some kind of weird vision quest/retreat.
6) according to krs-one, by virtue of being at the meeting, "i am hip hop." my cred is unstoppable.[/url]
