Most of you don't like them as much as you used to (if you're even willing to admit you EVER liked them), but fuck you, because they've got some good shit in their catalog. They are definitely deserving of a "GLARING OMISSIONS" mix, with the following tracklisting:

1. "Blacking Out the Friction" - (from The Photo Album)
2. "We Looked Like Giants" - (from Transatlanticism)
3. "Company Calls" - (from We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes)
4. "Crooked Teeth" - (from Plans)
5. "Fake Frowns" - (from Something About Airplanes)
6. "The Sound of Settling" - (from Transatlanticism)
7. "We Laugh Indoors" - (from The Photo Album)
8. "Summer Skin" - (from Plans)
9. "Photobooth" - (from the Forbidden Love EP)
10. "I Was a Kaleidoscope" - (from The Photo Album)
11. "President of What?" - (from Something About Airplanes)
12. "Expo '86" - (from Transatlanticism)
13. "Start Again" - (from Plans)
14. "Lowell, MA" - (from We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes)
15. "A Movie Script Ending" - (from The Photo Album)
16. "Pictures in an Exhibition" - (from Something About Airplanes)
17. "Someday You Will Be Loved" - (from Plans)
18. "Title and Registration" - (from Transatlanticism)
19. "Information Travels Faster" - (from The Photo Album)

I think this is their best song.

You have about 8 too many from Transatlanticism and Plans. And you're missing "Title Track", "For What Reason", and "Why You'd Want to Live Here". And "Photobooth" is from the Forbidden Love EP.

"Why You'd Want to Live Here" was a difficult one to cut at the last minute. Thanks for the heads-up on "Photobooth." Neither "Title Track" nor "For What Reason" do anything for me.

Transatlanticism isn't as bad as you think it is. But Plans is largely dreadful, yes.

I'm pretty much only a Death Cab fan due to "Title Track", "For What Reason", "Lowell, MA", and "Company Calls".

"Lowell, MA", and "Company Calls" are both open qual.

We Have The Facts And We're Voting Yes is still one of my favorite albums of all time, which is impressive considering that usually a band's latter day foibles will bleed back (in my mind) on their earlier work.

See: U2. My favorite band in high school and early college. Now I rarely listen to them even though I know in my head that Achtung Baby (for example) is still awesome.

Not hatin', but why do you think this is so? I had comparable feelings from time-to-time in the past, but seem to have come to peace with this tendency...

Ontopic - there's a handful of songs I can stand by DCFC these days, but even in 00-01, when I really thought well of them, I couldn't stomach an entire record except maybe Votes. As such, the Love EP was perfect. Although in retrospect, "Forbidden Love" as a title is kinda blah.

It's the same halo effect that makes you like and trust people who you find have similar interests to you. You learn they like Radiohead and the Red Sox and you like them. Later, when you learn they also eat babies, you can't believe it.

Maybe it's because when we listen to the older stuff, we can now hear the twinkling of what would later develop and it turns us off?

I thought he was talking about me actually. Except Shiv probably really does eat babies, so there's that.

How'd I get dragged into this? I don't even really like DCFC...or babies.

I was using things you like, and a hypothetical friend. Not me and you. I'm not a Sox fan and you don't, to my knowledge, eat babies.

Guys if we make this just a tad bit wistful and/or melancholy with stunted lyrical flow, WE COULD HAVE OUR VERY OWN GIBBARD SONG!
