why do you even make mixes? Why not just put things on shuffle if you're going to make a 20-song mix every day? The computer can do the work for you.

I average one mix a week, actually. It's something I've done for decades.

The difference between shuffle and the mixes is that I have a flow and purpose to where the tracks go and what's included. It's not a random exercise, more like a lifelong DJ who can't do his own thing in his paying gig (no more cueing up the 45's), so does it this way.

I still make them whether I post them here or not, but after I got a Mac and started using mediafire, the mixes became much simpler to offer.

Up till now they mostly littered my truck and I played them in place of radio stations.

I haven't seen someone describe the compulsion to consistently make mixes as similar to mine before. That's exactly my situation. I put the mixes up here and on another board because I can. Hopefully someone else will enjoy some of mine - it not - it doesn't matter. I like em.

I toyed with doing a show at my local non-commercial station but it seemed like such a hassle and I probably get more 'new music' out to people via web-mixes that I would with WPVM anyway.

Yeah, I don't know if anyone uses these mixes, either.

It would be a curious thing to be irked by free music, though.

One could just ignore the threads, I'd think.

Or just scan the songlist and go "huh."

I think I do a good job with them. I enjoy listening to them in my truck and maybe one or two others would feel the same or at least discover/be reminded of a good track/artist here and there.

I usually scan em for stuff I want to hear or have heard and want to own, or whatever.

I never got the feeling that any of these were 20 random tracks from shuffle, either.

I download about 50% of them and enjoy them.

I pretty much life on shuffle and I hate it.
