Yeh yeh, I know - I'm playing into my own caricature by posting this, but fuggit, I put it together for someone and figured I may as well share it while the link is available. Everything here is from the early '70s (with the exception of track #15 "Panic In The World", which came out in '75 or '76), and fell under the loose heading of glam (or glitter, as it was called in North America at the time). There's a few omissions (good ones like Alice Cooper, bad ones like Mudd or Chickory Tip), but I think it gives a pretty good overview of the era.

I have used this song quite a bit on mixes -- the song honestly does make me smile.

fyi, Rads, I'm going out to my car right now to grab the slight variation of this mix you gave me and review.

1. Virginia Plain - Roxy Music- Roxy Music is just one of those bands that I continue to love more and more each time I hear something new (or at least new to me). Bryan's tremulous vocals never annoy me either!

2. Jam Jam - American Jam Band - can I guess what "jam" is a euphemism for? I LOVE this song.

3. Roll Away the Stone - Mott the Hoople - I don't know what it is about totally affected British vocals, but I love 'em. A band I know very little about, but maybe I should investigate further.

4. Albatross - Chunky - so now I know what you mean when you say I shouldn't necessarily associate the glam scene exclusively with Bowie (I know what you mean, but it still doesn't change the fact that I will heart Bowie forever and ever, no matter what you say!), as this sounds like something Bowie or Marc Bolan could have done. Dig those crazy synthesizers!

5. Turtle Dove - The Rats - LOVE. THIS. More please. I always turn this one up loud in the car.

6. Glycerine Queen - Suzi Quatro - again, LOVE THIS. What Joan Jett wishes she could be (and I guess to be fair, somewhat achieved... what's that quote Bowie said about the best artists borrow?). Another top volume track. "WHASSA MATTA QUEENIE!?"

7. Thunderwing - T. Rex- I love the undulating vibe of this one... could totally dance to this one.

8. Coast to Coast - Ducks Deluxe- Never heard of these guys before. Definitely a rocker. Probably not my favorite on the mix, but it's still good... I've yet to be disappointed.

9. Gudbuy T'Jane - Slade- While I like Slade's music, Noddy's vocals can get old to me after a while... it's not that I don't like the screamy quality of it, but well... I guess it just gets old after a while! ;)

10. Wig Wam Bam - The Sweet- Damn, I love this. As an aside, my older sister used to have a Sweet 45 called "Little Willy" I think, so prior to your mix cd's, that was the only Sweet knowledge I had!

11. Maid in Heaven - Be Bop Deluxe - I think I liked the last be bop deluxe song you sent me, and this one doesn't disappoint either. Again, not the most favorite song on the mix, but good still.

12. Natural Gas - Paul Ryan - who is this dude??? Handclaps? Check. Fey vocals with singalong qualities? Check. d-approved? Check. LOVE IT.

13. Bang Bang Bullet - Streak - oh my... cheekiness and sexuality abounds. :)

14. High School Dropout - Crushed Butler - God, I love these band names! Dirty mix, but it works.

15. She's Just a Friend of Mine - Hobnail - Another undulating one (I love that word, undulating), but I guess there's no other way to describe that motion you get when... ahem... doing something naughty. This is wonderful.

16. Shout it Out - Ice Cream- I thought this one was fun, but not one of the highlights.

17. Sweet Sweet Heart - Despair- oh man, love that intro cow bell rhythm. Can totally imagine myself, drink in hand, eyes closed, dancing around the room.

18. Motor Boat - Jimmy Jukebox- This is fun. Trilling, huh?

19. Ain't Misbehaving - Tiger Lily- doesn't surprise me that a 70s glam band would cover this song... in fact, it's downright appropriate.

20. Ball Park Incident - Wizzard- wasn't PopTodd singing Wizzard's praises recently? That aside (;)), this is GREAT. Lead singer's voice kinda reminds me of Noddy Holder's. Who came first?

21. Aggravation Place - The Jook- Don't know these guys, but this sounds like something that could have come out in the late 70s/early 80s to me, maybe a punkier version of glam, if that's appropriate for me to say.

Make Me Smile - Cockney Rebel - well, you knew how I felt about this song due to those dudes I love irrationally covering it at one point. It's nice to hear the original though, and it's still a wonderful song.

I think I like this mix better than the last glam mix you sent me, so well done, and thank you!
