"I've earned the right to just make things that I find provocative in my own way," he says. "I've earned the right to fail, which means making what I think are really great movies that no one wants to see."

good for him. go for it.

well, I think it's great that he's at the point in his life where he feel like he can make other movies and not worry about it. I mean, who wouldn't love to be in that situation?

I think he did a huge disservice to himself by disassociating with the Directors Guild. I'm not saying he's not a good director (although the last two SW movies have proven to be flat, emotionless and rigid in execution), but I haven't seen enough of his films to say otherwise. (Started watching THX-1138, and didn't finish it in time to return the dvd, unfortunately). I'd love to hear otherwise from you guys.

totally random note: I have a hard time identifying with or feeling any sort of kismet with ol' George because unfortunately, he reminds me way too much of a guy I went to college with who was a real prick.

A fourth episode of the Indiana Jones story will move forward as soon as Lucas, director Spielberg, and returning hero Harrison Ford sign off on a script.

Originally this was was going to be another one that predated Raiders, but that's just impossible now.

What was that all about again? Did he want Spielberg to direct Jedi or something?

from http://www.answers.com/topic/george-lucas
Lucas was fined by the Directors Guild of America for refusing to have a standard title sequence in his Star Wars films. After paying the fine, he quit the guild.

Apparently he's also earned the right to make really crappy movies that everyone wants to see. 7 days and counting!

The movie American Graffiti was very cool though. It had all the awkwardness of being a teen with time to kill, and no idea how to kill it well.

Personally, for me the movie STAR WARS, and EMPIRE stand alone as pretty great movies versus any movies in history. Regardless of what follows now, or then, we have to give him huge props for everything he has started in the movie industry.

I'd like to make for a year what he must make for one day.

I think he should stop milking the previous Star Wars and just go ahead and do episodes 7-9. You have time, it's not like you're on your deathbed, dude.

He could play his own dad in a prequal. That would pretty much rule.

That was the original idea, wasn't it? I think he just might despite what he says.

Coppola always said he would never do another Godfather movie after Part II and of course changed his mind. Although, many may wish he hadn't.

Aren't there some books that have already been written for chapters 7-9? I wonder if he'd go with those ideas or just come up with something new?
