panasonic --> pan sonic

After getting a letter from panasonic's lawyers, they changed their name, and titled their next album "A". Classic.

I can't think of any, specifically, but just about any band that ends their name with a "UK", E.G. Chameleons UK, Mission UK. I never understood why Drain STH are called that, I wonder if it's because of a lawsuit.

One of my favourites.

I thought they just did that to be confusing.

Actually, the one as Supersystem is pretty fochin' good. I rank it right up there with LCD Soundsystem and Junior Boys.

I cannot recall from where the respective artists are, but Drain STH -- the heavy goth-girl band -- is the second 'Drain' artist. There's a techno dj or something that had the name first.

Cashmoney becomes Cash Audio.

(Cash Money Records sent the band a cease-and-desist letter, pending lawsuit if nothing was cleared up in six weeks. Turned out, of course, that Cashmoney (Chicago drrty blues duo) was around for six months before Cash Money Records, but per the latter's designation as "millionaires" they had greater resources to pursue legal action, so the band Cashmoney stood down.)

The Beat - The English Beat

One of those no-win situations. An American band and a British band simultaneously called The Beat. One winds up getting called The (English) Beat and the other becomes (Paul Collin's) Beat. As far as I can tell then, the name The Beat is still up for grabs.

I'm pretty sure there was two bands with the name Mos Eisley around at the same time - one in the US and one in the UK.

The kiwi band Shihad changed their name to Pacifier before they began their attempted assault on the American market, because Shihad sounded too much like Jihad, and everyone knows that 'all Americans hate Arabs'. They made a shitty record of crappy American-made conventional 'alt rock' poo poo, then changed their name back to Shihad, and started playing good music again.

Not a lawsuit, but after 9-11, I Am The World Trade Center temporarily became something else. I think it was just The World Trade Center, I dunno why.

they changed to I Am because they wanted to disassociate with the buildings, but that wasn't long-lived.
