how awesome was that?

Ferrell came out onstage during QOTSA's first song dressed up like the cowbell guy wailing away on the thing, a la Belishi doing Joe Cocker. I think Josh Homme was just as pissed off as Cocker was. Homme had no idea he was there at first and he looked pretty pissed when he first noticed.

i'm also pretty sure Amy Poehler said "plastic dick" in the news.

the smigel cartoon was hilarious too. didn't know that Louis CK and Dino Stamatopoulos were working on that now.

celebrity jeopardy and the cartoon were good. the rest was typically embarrassing.

I'm watching Leon Russell rock out on a classic SNL episode from the first season. Host is Dyan Cannon.

This shit is so much better than the sewage that Fred Armistead and Seth Myers try to pass off as comedy.

Okay, strangely enough, I'm watching the previously mentioned classic re-run of SNL from the first season, and Belushi just pulled the Joe Cocker stunt on Leon Russell, who looked like he had zero idea what was going on.

I loved Belushi's portrayal of Joe Cocker.

was Ferrell mocking the fact that Little Sister has Don't Fear the Reaper amounts of cowbell?

To each their own - I thought the smigel cartoon was funny at first but it got uncomforably long and graphic.....

The Oracle bit was funny, as was the pepper grinding gag. But nothing beat the cowbell guy during QOTSA and Celebrity Jeopardy.

Funniest Line of the Night:
"I'll take Jap Anus Relations."

I also got a kick out of this bit from Weekend Update:
"With Everybody Loves Raymond ending it's run, the next show poised to take the helm on Monday nights is Everybody Has Mixed Feelings About Charlie Sheen." (or something to that effect...this ain't no transcription service over here)

EDIT: That recurring Nuni sketch has GOT. TO. GO.

I realized that it was the point - but it actually got to the point that I turned the channel - that isn't good execution of any TV show if you ask me - the advertisers who paid to have their commercial run after that bit probably missed out on having their product seen by more people than just me and my wife :(

The first time they did Nuni it was great, with Topher Grace. The problem is that it's a bad idea to recurr any sketch, but SNL does it all the time. At least it's better than Debbie Downer.

My favorite thing was the Amy Poehler birth control commercial to Sixpence None the Richer.
