1 Rocket from the crypt. They have technically been my favorite band for about seven years now, though it's starting to be more of an official title than a reflection of my current tastes. It's just going to be damn hard to knock them out of the #1 spot.

2 Mike Doughty. I feel like even what you would call his mediocre songs are quality. I think I like rockity roll more than haughty melodic, but am loving that one too. I really like his voice, his presence, and the way his songs flow.

3 Birdmonster. Okay, this is my friends' band, and I don't mean to street team...but I would really honestly say that they're one of three favorite bands right now. Their music is so much fun, and I'm always looking forward to their next show.

Bands I still think I can expect something exciting from:

Animal Collective
Need New Body*
Lightning Bolt**

*Maybe. Still deciding on the new one.

**Saw 'em last night, and they played mostly new stuff. Sounded better than the older stuff.

when i reloaded my iPod i actually went BILLY and just put all my Stones, Beatles, and Dylan albums on their instead of of a rotating cast...so on "Shuffle" in the truckster so i get a lot of these three.

1. The Rolling Stones
2. Bob Dylan
3. The Beatles

=my unfuckwithable ALL TIME TOP 3

its nice though b/c im getting a lot of deep cuts-particularly Stones that will strengthen my fervor for their later period output.

But my top 3 current faves (listening-wise)

1. Spoon
2. Ike Reilly
3. Outkast (doin a lot of catchin up on these guys)

This wasn't too easy, because most of the things I've been listening to lately by the dead [Townes Van Zandt], more or less retired [Neil Young, Alice Cooper, War] or broken up.

1. Ike Reilly. Brings some much needed balls and piss-poor attitude to the Rock and Roll scene.

2. Steve Poltz. Most likely because I saw him on Monday and not only was he devastatingly entertaining, but he is also a damn cool guy that was more than willing to hang after the show. Plus what's not to like about a guy who led off a set with "Dahmer Song" dedicated to Hannibal Lecter when he was on tour opening for Jewel.

3. Spoon. The new one is good, and hasn't lost any steam on me so far. Add in a nice back catalog, and the impression that they at least have their own thing going it seems.

Based on recent releases that I enjoy a lot, a solid back catalogue and likelihood of continued strong work:

Wilco
Spoon
My Morning Jacket
