I called in yesterday sick but towards the end of the day I started feeling A LOT better. So much in fact that I mowed the lawn. I kinda felt guilty about it, but I really did feel like shit at the beginning of the day. Now I'm actually @ work and feel A LOT worse than I did yesterday, but I'm not really one to call in, especially two days in a row. So I'm not sure if I should just stick it out or go tell my boss that I'd like to leave early. He's really cool but I don't want to puch it. On the other hand I feel and sound like dog shit and I don't want to get everyone else sick in the office.

What'd you think?

Leave. You're doing nobody any favors contaminating the office.

There is absolutely no reason not to stay home or go home when you are sick. Drop the guilt trip and take care yourself and others.

btw take a "mental health" sick day every once in a while, your brain will thank you.

Double this, you'll only make yourself worse and pollute the office making yourself very unpopular if others get sicker than you do.

And if you aren't sick, always mention diarrhea and they'll give you as much time as you need.

i ALWAYS feel guilty when i call off.
even if i'm REALLY sick.

i still check voice mail and email from home.
call in instructions, etc.

(damn me and my 'if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself' work ethic.)

but, if i do call in....i try not to give any details.
mostly because i know my boss doesn't want to hear them.
but also because i feel weird saying the word 'diarhea' or 'cramps' to my boss.

that depends on whether you're going in tomorrow. if not, everyone's just gonna think you made it up to get a 6 day weekend.

Knock on wood, but pretty much never. I rarely get sick beyond a cold...and being in an office with someone w/ a cold ain't gonna give you a cold any slower/faster than door handles, etc.

Now get to work, Boy!

I've never felt guilty about calling in sick. And if work hassles me about it, I just take more days off.

Next time you're sick & take a day off, take it easy the WHOLE day - whether you feel better at some point or not.

I just woke up, @ home, from a two hour nap. Feel like shit, but at least I'm no at work feeling this way. I am going in tomorrow, no matter what. My boss was super cool about me leaving, saying he didn't want me here if I didn't feel good. He's a good guy.

I'm seriously considering calling off the gig tonight. But we'll see how I feel in two more hours. I tried to sing just a little when I got off of work in the car and sounded like Tom Waits, and to me, that's NOT cool.

EDIT: Thanks for the advice ya'll!

i feel kinda bad b/c i've been taking a lot of days off recently:
day after coachella for r&r
then the next day i had to leave early for my friend's memorial service/funeral
week and half later, i took a day off so i could catch up on schoolwork since i've been out of town a lot.
then last friday b/c i went camping.

but now that i think about it, i have the vacation & sick time, so why should i care... i get my shit done at work and if i'm overly stressed, i will take a day off just to rest because you need to do that every once in awhile... especially during finals week because that's around the time of my highest stress level & when i get a nervous breakdown.

and if you're sick, just go home. you don't want to get anyone else sick plus your performance at work will be half-assed anyway so what's the point of coming in?

I can't call in.

Because charlie and I were both sick so much in winter and then stupid issues with his school I haven't been allowed to call in since April. If I call in anytime from April -july then I get my pay docked by 2 dollars. This came down AFTER I had the great fall outside the bldg and sprained a hand and ankle in the process(LIKE I WAS PLANNING THAT!!)

I mean we're not talking once a week I mean there was two weeks where he was sick with bronchitis and flu for three days, went back to work for two, and then came down with the damn thing myself and out for four. It sucked.

GEORGE: Um, shouldn't you be at work by now?

NEWMAN: Work? It's raining.

GEORGE: Soooooo...

NEWMAN: I called in sick. I don't work in the rain.

GEORGE: You don't work in the rain?!? You're a mailman! "Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow"...It's the first one!!!"

NEWMAN: I was never that big on creeds.

Someone told me that they knew a guy in another post office that actually had a doctor's note that said he couldn't work in the rain. I want that doctor.

If I start to feel better on a day that I called in sick, I'll deliberately eat some raw chicken to get salmonila poisoning.

Not really. But I thought it'd be funny to say.
