From this thread, it seems like I need to hear Common, Okkervil River, and Sleater-Kinney soon.

part of the reason i created this -- to see what i'm missing out on. looks like i should try common's "be". i'm going to spin the national within the hour.

I am off to buy some of this stuff, I see The National and Antony and The Johnsons on a lot of lists - anyone have a good description for either of these?

I only have 4 real standouts so far

1. Maximilian Hecker
2. Antony & the Johnsons
3. Magnolia Electric Co.
4. Max de Castro

I haven't heard anything I've really disliked but a whole bunch of stuff would be tied for fifth.

Just stuff I've bought, nothing really spectacular:

1. Antony and the Johnsons - I Am a Bird Now
2. Bonnie Prince Billy & Matt Sweeney - Superwolf
-2 & 1/2. Animal Collective - Prospect Hummer EP (haven't actually bought this)
3. Low - The Great Destroyer
4. Angels of Light - Sing "Other People"
5. Caribou - The Milk of Human Kindness
6. Fantomas - Suspended Animation
7. Shearwater - Thieves EP
8. Magnolia Electric Co. - What Comes After the Blues
9. Okkervil River - Black Sheep Boy
10. Mike Ladd - Negrophilia

I'm gonna pick up the new Smog, hopefully tomorrow. Based on my one time listening to it, I'm expecting it to crack my top 4 or 5.

I'm also waiting to buy the new Sufjan Stevens and Need New Body records when they come out. I'd also like to hear High on Fire even though I don't think much of Jesu. (Don't know if they're really at all similar, but I assume they're in kinda the same vein.)

You guys listen to an embarrassing amount of indie rock. Don't get me wrong, there are some great albums on these lists, but I can't find one single mainstream album on the whole collective of lists. And I know there isn't a lot to choose from in the mainstream, but Spoon, Andrew Bird, Decemberists, etc. = the most bland of all of indie rock. Give it up.

I think I need to hear this Dalek.

And whoever pointed out TTC has got his ear pretty low to the ground. Great, bizarre hip hop record.

this is all i can think of:

1. Bonnie 'Prince' Billy & Matt Sweeney - Superwolf
2. The Game - The Documentary
3. Antony & The Johnsons - I am a Bird Now
4. Andrew Bird - Andrew Bird & the Mysterious Production of Eggs
5. Sufjan Stevens - Illinois
6. Fiona Apple - Extraordinary Machine (or whatever its called)

and if Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - B-Sides and Rarities counts, that would be about number two or so...

i havent really listened to much new music this year, so...
