Mine is this:

Weevil - Half Smile

http://s6.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1MV22D0OYKCU51BHU6TT0JLKD4

I came across this today and immediately fell for it hard. I guess I'm just a sucker for harmonic indie-pop with synth and electronica flourishes.

RIYL: Styrofoam, The Notwist, Death Cab For Cutie, The Postal Service

Here's a review:

There's an argument that there are too many shoegazing bands on the indie cicruit. There's another argument that there are too many melancholic electronic bands around too so when the two styles combine it's surely asking for trouble. Pure poppycock of course and credit to London duo Weevil for raising their heads far enough above the FX pedal to embrace current technology. With the downtrodden melodies of 'Half Smile', 'Too Long Sleeping' and 'Splinters' they match the The Notwist for pop accessibility. 'Silver Rails' is one of a few tracks to use a New Order bassline but its chorus is Ride-shaped. The masterstroke, however, is 'A Million Things' an epic of desperately sad piano chords, drum machines and perfect harmonies. In a herd full of similar artists, Weevil's album shows a strength a depth to propel them above the masses.

Does it have to be new, as in debut just released new?

If not: Joy Division.

I'd never actually listened to them outside of the most well known song and picked up Closer and the singles comp Substance. I am astounded at how many bands have been influenced by this group. I realize how fucking obvious that statement is, but still. It was literally a 'spot the influence' session. "Oh there's where Echo came from...hey there's the Jesus and Mary Chain" Plus the songs are just damn good. Better late than never, I guess.

antony and the johnsons: i know there was an album back in '97 but it flew WAY under the radar. 'i am a bird' is by far my favorite album of this year and probably my favorite of the past few years.

Well, I just noticed that I only need one more post to get to 100 and if it can be about music, so much the better.

I'm liking that Weevil single quite a bit. Love the Postal Service and being a synthpop holdover from the 80's it's just my kind of thing. Thanks for brining it to my attention. Gonna go hunt for it this weekend although around here it's pretty much a lock that it's going to be an internet grab.

Know it's got a little attention here but I'm really loving the Shout Out Louds. More of the 80's revival, but done right. RIYL if you liked the Legends last year. Kinda sorta like the Strokes on some level but I find it not nearly as instantly consumable if you know what I mean. I find the Strokes greatly enjoyable but it's so easily digested that I don't find myself playing it more than a couple of times before I'm ready to move on. So far this one hasn't run it's course yet. I don't know much about the YSI thing but they do have a website and a couple of songs that will give you an idea: http://www.shoutoutlouds.com/music.asp

as always, your results will vary.

Junior Boys probably. How do you come up with an album this good the first time out?

M.I.A. and Joanna Newsom not far behind. I also love Animal Collective and Architecture in Helsinki, but they've been around a couple years.

Artist that is in no way new but I'm just getting into: Brian Eno. I can't stop playing Another Green World.

Probably my favourite new artists I've discovered this year would be Edgar 'Jones' Jones and King Creosote.

I've gone on about both before on the forums so if you want to know more do a search!

It's a 2004 release, but I finally ran across a copy last week- Blanche's If We Can't Trust The Doctors. A little edgy, a little twangy, a lot of good music.

Then you outta grab the live Lou Reed disc, Animal Serenade. Antony does probably close to half of the lead vocals on it and is featured throughout.

this is a tough question, don't really know what new i've really been listening to. of montreal has probably evolved into my newest semi-favorite band after listening to sunlandic twins so much. but i'd also toss antony and the johnsons in a hat. "i am a bird" just really hit a chord on the first listen...we'll see how it grows.

I can't seem to get enough of Supersystem (formerly El Guapo, but I listened to El Guapo, and it doesn't sound nuthin' like that). RIYL LCD Soundsystem, Junior Boys, Fugazi (I'm not sure it's Fugazi, but one of those indie rock gods from late 80's/early 90's had that sort of amateur multi-part harmonies thing going on -- and by amateur, I mean almost spoken, yet musical).
