I don't see myself ever paying to see them, but damn if they don't have a ton of songs I like.

I saw the Violator tour in 93 or 94 It was great! Lots of people wearing much vinyl and leather. Don't know if I would go see them again 10 years later.

I can just imagine Some these old goth chicks trying to cram into their old gear for old times sake.

Ha, I saw a lot of these girls at the Duran Duran concert I went to in March. Sadly, many of them had not gotten the memo that it was no longer 1985 and therefore Capezios and fedora hats weren't in style anymore.

Dude, they're great in concert.

And besides, there's a whole new generation of kids loving the old retro stuff.

Old retro stuff.

I guess it is now, as weird as that sounds to me regarding music released after I was already an adult.

Not all of us dig it because it's 'retro' or 'ironic'. I love Violator because it's packed to the brim with stellar songs.

Why tour without a new album out?

Depeche Mode are currently in Santa Barbara, California recording their first studio album since 2001's, 'Exciter', due for release this Autumn.

2004 ended on a high for Depeche Mode, generated largely by the success of their remix album, 'Depeche Mode Remixes 81-04' which sold over 1 million copies worldwide and produced the top 10 single, 'Enjoy The Silence' remixed by Mike Shinoda.

The new album is being co-produced by Depeche Mode and Ben Hillier, whose credits include Elbow's 'Cast Of Thousands' album, the current acclaimed Doves release, 'Some Cities' and Blur's classic, 'Think Tank'.

"It's a great feeling to be back together in the studio again and we are very excited about the new material", says Dave Gahan. "We are all feeling incredibly positive about the album. Ben Hillier has brought a whole new dynamic to the group which is quite inspiring."

I think I just hurt my jaw from yawning so hard.

I hope George Michael doesn't make a new record and tour, because the outpouring of love 'round here will just be too unbearable.

have you watched any of that show "hit me baby...whatever"? loverboy has completely inflated as a band. flock of doughnuts were pathetic. last night cameo was wearing vinyl contact paper. it's my new favorite one-hour-a-week tv train wreck.

oh yeah, LOTS of baseball caps.

I tivo this show too, Laura, and I secretly watch it in the morning while hubby is in the shower. Lord knows I'd get massive amounts of shit if he were in the room watching the train wreck. But Irene Cara won last night? So, so wrong.

Loverboy looked AWFUL, and Tommy Tutone just made me depressed, knowing he lives in my city and is a programmer. What a letdown.

I saw them on the Exciter tour. I would have preferred to see them tour on 101, Violator, or Songs of Faith and Devotion - back when they were a little more in their heyday. But it was a good show. I don't feel the need to see them again though, unless I get tickets for free.

Violator was like 15 years ago, dude.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I love that album -- easily my favourite by them. Not only stellar songs, but they are well sung and fantabulously arranged as well. Plus, it works so well as an album, from beginning to end, not just as a collection of songs.

Anyway, sorry about the "retro" comment -- didn't mean to make anyone (else) feel old, but you have to admit, when you tour a greatest hits album, and then tour a remix album, you're pretty much admitting you've passed your heyday.

And besides, I guess what I meant by that is, dM are one of the few bands in the synthpop genre still getting major attention, and the large reason behind that has got to be the nostalgia factor.

I saw them back on the Construction Time Again tour. I am older'n dirt.

Still not as old as some o' youse. Ha-ha.
