I would be interested in these, though doesn't mean I am definitely going to get them (dates from Insound):

06/07 NEED NEW BODY - where is black ben (5ruechristine)
06/07 RACEBANNON - first there was the emptiness (secretly canadian)
06/28 DEERHOOF - green cosmos (killrockstars/5ruechristie)

NNB - I like this a lot. Typically awesome/awful album art. Maybe not as good an album as the previous two, though.

Racebannon - Good, but they've definitely improved since this. If you're like me, though, and just need more Racebannon, it's worth it. If you don't have their other two albums and even their Insound tour split, get those first.

Deerhoof - Couple of good tracks but too short to buy, IMO. I may YSI it sometime.

The only stuff I'm really looking forward to are some reissues, the Orange Juice comp, and the Sufjan Stevens album.

I'm not sure what the deal is in the States, but here in Canaduh, it's only available on import at the moment.

But man, I heard it at work and it's going to kick your rump around town.

i had to splurge for the UK import -- which comes with a tasty bonus cd t'boot.

but, yeah, this album kicks ass. top 10er for me.

String Cheese Incident - One Step Closer (it's a cover album of all Linkin Park tunes...rawk out!)

You're kidding.

I think, I think Lightning Bolt is slated for sometime this fall, hopefully, fuck. Called Frenzy, it's apparently comprised of all improvized material. Sounds like a great concept, now give it to me. Of all the above-mentioned releases, this is the only one that excites me.

Wasn't there mention of a new ANIMAL COLLECTIVE album in the late summer?
And that BJORK soundtrack might be interesting.
Ooh, ooh, I'm dying to hear the IRON & WINE/CALEXICO collabo.

I don't know if any of these are summer.

Yes. If only it were true...

The Holopaw is good, albeit short (33:00).

I read this thread the other day and said 'oooh' for a few things. I don't feel like going back through right now and picking them out, but considering I'm trying to save money and am not overwhelmed with summer releases, I'm okay with the few oohs.

Didn't realize there was a new PAJO (Papa M, David Pajo) coming out in a few weeks. That's probably at the top of my list as far as new releases now.

Some potential interesting releases coming in August:

Richard Thompson
Fleshtones
Blasters
Public Enemy
Rodney Crowell (guests include Emmylou Harris & John Prine)
George Clinton (guest incl Prince & Parliament/Funkadelic members)
John Vanderslice

Folks should use the relative break to buy some older albums. Most of you guys focus too much on new releases rather than just good music that you don't own anyway (in this poster's opinion).

np: Spirit "Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus"

I have been doing this all year and have found great gems and new genres. It has also given me balance on not rushing to buy that new artist's record until that "new" sound steeps for a while. I love buying an album I know I will always enjoy down the road. I hate it when it dies out or smolders early on.

my focus is about 50/50 old/new until sept/oct when i go for mostly-new stuff. i agree that it's easier to be happier longer with an older release than something brand-spanking-new-supposedly-the-next-great-thing.

Harlan T. Bobo Too Much Love

From Miles of Music: Harlan T. Bobo -- bassist with dirty Memphis rockers American Death Ray -- teams up with members of local brethren Reigning Sound for the decidedly tamer Too Much Love. With hints of Beck in his somewhat bedraggled voice, Bobo eases into the record with the gentle cowboy folk of "Only Love", timidly sweet with distant Hammond swells. The mood builds with the spare alt. country bounce of "Left Your Door Unlocked". However, the intensity builds round the middle as things become electrified. Then it takes on a sound more in line with what youd expect given those involved. The crunchy throb of organ and guitar pound on "Too Much Love" recalls Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. Throughout, Bobo displays a rough hewn outpouring of vivid emotion in these songs about love, obsession and loss. Chris Davis, from the The Memphis Flyer boasts: "Bobos first solo effort is a treasure chest overflowing with melancholy gems and sunny offbeat love songs. Its romance distilled: tattered, delirious, fragile, sly, and disarming." (Goner Records)
