I really like Bella, it has more character and personality than QV (though I like QV a lot, too). Plus it's a little more centrally located. If I stay in Philly beyond mid-2006, I'll probably move a few blocks over to bella.

i have no idea where one begins and the other ends.

i love how pompus the names sound. Bella Vista, Queen Villiage . . . we should have buttlers and shit.

Basically, if you want to get around to different parts of Philly, you need a car. That's one thing I really don't like about living here.

That's bullshit. Where do you live? And where do you need to go?

I live in Queen Village, so if I want to go to the Art Museum neighborhood, or someplace like Roxborough or Chestnut Hill, driving is the only way to get there within a reasonable time.

Queen Village to Art Museum is like a six dollar cab ride, 20 minutes by bike, or a 10 minute walk up to Market street, and then a 15 minute ride on the 38 bus.

Rox is a little tricky, I'll give you that, but it's also far away, so it'll take you 20 minutes by car as well. Hop on the R5 from Market East and you can get out to C-Hill/Rox in less than 25 minutes, though it will cost you $3.50

The problem with bus or train connections is they take forever. Yes, it can be done, but you better have two hours to kill if you're taking bus/ train to Roxborough (or anywhere via bus & train). Compared with a 25 minute drive (without traffic), it's a no-brainer.

A cab to the art museum itself is $10, but more if I'm going further up into the neighborhood (like to the North Star). Walking to Market from my place is about 20-25 minutes, but then you have to wait for the bus and then wait in traffic around city hall.

All of this would be solved by a diagonally travelling subway line, which will never, ever happen.

Bike is the way to go though, but don't you get all sweaty and gross?

the north star i usually take the $10 cab, and then get drunk enough that i don't mind a 40 minute walk home.

or drive and get mad that i can't drink.

i think it's 5th, but yeah.
i like it. I get lots of noodles, fresh veggies and teas really cheap.
and then i experiment with some more exotic things too.
and if you spend over $35 or so they give you free stuff, like eggs or cookies.

just make sure you check the salt and MSG content on everything and you should be fine. (some noodles have up to 75% of the salt for the day)

i'm usually the only white person there.

on the subject of philly vs. nyc, having grown up in philly, lived in nyc for 5 years, and then moved back to philly, i can say this:

i prefer the bars in new york. that might just be because you can't smoke in them though.

philly is a much more pleasant city to live in.

new york has a way better subway.

philly is a million times more pleasant city to be in a band in, for those of you who are concerned about that sort of thing. after four years of asshole club owners, a million shitty bands competing for your slot, and weeding your way through the brooklyn trustfund scenewhores, joining a band in philly was a real eye-opener. imagine the bands being friends and helping each other out! holy fuck! and if you want to go play in New York, it's an hour and a half away. i love playing there, but trying to be in a band there is the pits and the shits.

i do miss the thai restaurants every five feet though.

np: seconds, 'got laid'

I was really only kidding, actually, I was trying to bust your balls. I like busting balls. ;)

In any case, it's really hard to determine whether people are joking or not through a message board but I know you're good people. It'd be nice to meet you boys one day and goof off on one another and once and for all, realize that we're all nice people and mean well, we're just a bunch of clowns. :D

It's all good.

You can pretty well guess that if it doesn't involve politics or The Stones that I am usually being about 76% facetious.

I will be making a trip to NYC before the year is out, so I will be sure to keep you posted.

Manayunk pretty much sucks in general. parking nightmare, yuppie fraud central, shitty bars...there's a few good art galleries but the rest is just too much....manayunk.

Passayunk is okay by me though.

is Skinner's still open in Olde City? I liked that bar but heard it was closing because it was losing huge money.
