watch out for spyware with that one too, even though it claims none, my run of ad-aware after installation came up mucho positive.

Hm.... interesting.

My father-in-law wants me to set him up with "downloading music", so I've been trying to find a program that he'd be able to use without trouble.

Maybe soulseek, but I don't think he'd find much music on it that'd interest him.

you might want to give this a shot. or just search for a fasttrack client, which is the network kazaa uses.

I may be the only one here who uses it but WinMX is great, especially if you want "popular" stuff. Easy to use. No spyware. Occasionally I can find indie gems or obscure stuff though so I still use it. I'm constantly surprised at what people have on their hard drives.

SLSK is probably better for stuff we talk about here, but otherwise WinMX is an excellent alternative to Kazaa.

soulseek has enough users now that it is perfectly fine when it comes to finding popular songs

my uncle used winmx until recently when he found out he had 167 viruses from it

Yeah it was good as well... I can remember a lot of late nights sitting in front of a computer going "Man, you heard this song?" and then downloading it and rocking the fuck out.

I never got download speeds up to 600 or 700MB/sec with any other program but Napster. Downloads took like 5 seconds most times. Nothing else - AG, Kazaa, SLSK, etc has come anywhere close to that. So yeah, I miss the original Napster.
