recent favorites..

lift to experience - texas jerusalem crossroads
unwound - leaves turn inside you
jesu - s/t
windy & carl - consciousness

older favorites..

radiohead - ok computer
hum - you'd prefer an astronaut
kyuss - welcome to sky valley
slowdive - souvlaki
broken social scene - you forgot it in people
pinback
my bloody valentine - sometimes
death in vegas - girls

guess the common denominator here would be layers of instrumentation/distortion and a very full almost orchestral sound... looking for something new if anyone has any suggestions.. nothing too messy or cheesily epic please

Autolux-Future Perfect

I noticed the Hum reference which makes me think of spacey Failure (one of the members from Failure is in Autolux) and
My Bloody Valentine is Autolux like, I guess. This is by no means new, so if you already know about this, you're one of the cooler members on the board. :)

This is sorta like the Rachel Goswell sung songs on Souvlaki.

Also check out Callisto's True Nature Unfolds (also 2005, but a reissue of an out-of-print 2004 album,) Neurosis' The Eye of Every Storm and Isis Panopticon (and pretty much anything else of either of these two bands. EPIC doesn't begin to describe their sound.)

Foggin' aye! :headbang:

Might qualify as cheesily epic, but meets other criteria: Shape of Despair, Angels of Distress

I'll try to think of something more indy later. Amp, perhaps?

Oo, ooh! Third Eye Foundation/Matt Elliott -- anything by him/them. I was just listening to "What To Do But Cry?" from Ghost.

You also need to check out later Talk Talk (Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock).

The same as I recommend for anyone who is adventerous:
Tom Zé - Brazil Classics 4: Best Of...
Totally unlike anything you've ever heard before. Yet, oddly enough, there are still hooks aplenty. Elements of samba, bossa nova, psychadelic, pop, zappa, beefheart, and blenders (yeah, the Osterizer kind).

I hope you've checked out Godflesh, too, right? Because if not . . . well, think about the names! Godflesh -> Jesu. Son of Godflesh, man!

I thought of this because I've got Godflesh's Love and Hate in Dub going on the Ipod right now . . .
