About me? Well, those of you who journeyed from CMJ may or may not remember me. I haven't been on since... well... hmm... Man, it's been a while. So... my band broke up in December and I'm doing some solo stuff.

And outside of that, I really, really want to talk to someone about something that may touch a chord or two... I don't like the new Coldplay. Critics are hailing it as incredible except for maybe the lyrics. Friends of mine are worshipping it. Who agrees with me that X & Y really isn't that special? Or at least, who likes it but can explain to me why you like it?

I like tracks 12 and 13. And because of a commitment to a friend, I keep listening to the rest of the album trying to find redeeming qualities, and I've found some... I think it just comes down to taste...(duh)

I loved "Yellow". (Still do.)
After that, Coldplay started to bore me.
I gave X&Y a listen and wasn't exactly blown away.
I don't hate them, it just made for plesant background music and nothing more.

And hey!
Welcome back!

I'm with you. I think they're a band that has some interesting potential, but they just keep scraping by in the class. Yellow probably got them like a B+, and as the world wonders what they'll do next... they decide to be comfortable with a B.

: )

Thanks for the kind welcome.

I still dig them, but the new record is Oatmeal boring.

I had high expectations for X & Y and so far they haven't been met. There are about 4 maybe 5 great songs on there but the rest just sounds stagnant and a re-tread.

IMO "A Rush of Blood to the Head" will be looked back on as their crowning achievement. Coldplay are a little too vanilla for some folks tastes on here but that album is a great pop record. There are some timeless songs on there.

I remember you and I still haven't heard the new Coldplay, which surprises me.

I'm with you, Derris. X&Y is good but just doesn't stack up.

Welcome back, Lt.

Well, Obner lets ANYONE join these days! :D Welcome, Thomas, it took your ass long enough! Hope all is well out KC way.

I'd consider myself a fan of Coldplay, but not so much these days. They've begun to bore me enough that I've not had any interest in buying their new album.

I don't even know what to say to this.

Glad to have you back, guy. I'm not even going to bother with X&Y - I'll hear plenty of it walking through shopping centers.

the best review of it was one i heard on npr. the guy basically said that coldplay is like chocolate: they're good, not great, but no one will ever say they suck and everyone always likes them--even if just a little bit. he also said that x&y was the first album he could listen to with his grandmother (i can't decide if that was a backhanded complement or not).

I hope so...;)

Anyway, welcome Thomas. Sorry to hear about your band. I still listen to your album regularly. It's quite good, but I believe you know that already. Any plans for a new project?
